Air Jordan 13s from Michael Jordan's Last Chicago Bulls Run Sell for Record $2.2 Million

Sotheby has set a record for the highest price a pair of sneakers has ever sold for. According to ESPN, Michael Jordan’s Air Jordan XIII “Breds” sold for $2,238,000. The sneakers were worn during Mike’s “Last Dance” run.

The Jordan 13s were worn during the 1998 NBA Finals, specifically game 2. MJ would drop 37 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in the 93-88 win over the Utah Jazz. The sneakers were part of the run to Jordan’s last championship.

The sneakers were gifted to a Utah Jazz ball boy who helped Jordan recover a lost jacket.

“Today’s record-breaking result further proves that the demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to outperform and transcend all expectations,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectables, said in a statement. “Sotheby’s is extremely proud to hold the world record for most valuable game-worn sports memorabilia at auction and the most valuable sneakers ever sold, both of which — to no surprise — are directly tied to the global icon, Michael Jordan.”

Devin Booker unveiled the most recent iteration of Converse’s most recognizable design, the Chuck 70, in the tunnel before last night’s Phoenix Suns vs. LA Clippers game.

Devin Booker’s third NBA All-Star collaboration with Converse is brought to life with the shoe and a short film that goes along with it. They capture his idea for a modernized Chuck 70.

Booker’s fondness for the Chuck 70 is well known; in 2022, he declared the sneaker to be his favorite and displayed his big collection. It’s a mainstay of the tunnel fit titan’s classic, minimalist wardrobe, so much so that Booker asked Converse to design and produce his version of the silhouette. Booker simplified it to create a blank canvas ready for a simple, classic aesthetic.

Converse, a company built on the principle of creative expression, and Booker are working together to produce a short film that will realize his cinematic vision. The movie shows Booker traveling across the desert to an unspecified destination while fusing iconic American imagery with an iconic silhouette, pointing to his continued quest of a legacy both on and off the court.

An undyed egret canvas upper, a tonal embroidered Chuck patch, and a clean tape midsole without pinstripes or toe bumpers are how Booker realized his concept for the style. On April 12, the Converse x Devin Booker Chuck 70 will be accessible worldwide via Converse.com and the Nike SNKRS app. On April 13, it will also be accessible at Foot Locker and a few other retailers.

On this date in 2009, “Yeezy, Yeezy Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman.”

The above line comes from music and fashion mogul Kanye West’s “Facts” track from his The Life Of Pablo LP, which was actually released in 2016. West landed a new deal with Adidas for his Yeezy brand, but the original sneaker was released by Nike seven years prior.

Four years later, West switched brands, With his Yeezy sneaker gaining the lion’s share of its popularity under the Adidas umbrella. Despite the long-promised line of Kanye-Nike collaborative products like the Air Yeezy II Red Octobers, Kanye severed ties with the company after producing just two shoes in five years. 

“I said, ‘Well I need royalties.’ It’s not even like I have a joint venture. At least give me some royalties. Michael Jordan has 5 percent and that business is $2 billion. He makes a $100 million dollars a year off of 5 percent royalties,” West said. “Nike told me, ‘We can’t give you royalties because you’re not a professional athlete.’ I told them, ‘I go to the Garden and play one-on-no one. I’m a performance athlete.'”

Unable to compromise, Yeezus jumped ship and headed over to a competitor, Adidas. “The old me, without a daughter, would have taken the Nike deal because I just love Nikes so much,” Kanye said in his Angie Martinez Hot97 interview. “But the new me, with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.”

“Adidas will withdraw its opposition to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation’s (“BLMGNF”) trademark application as soon as possible,” the company said in a statement to Reuters.

Adidas recently filed a request to have the Black Lives Matter filing trademark a three-striped logo. However, the sneakers company has just rescinded their request. Adidas has been known for its three-striped logo for over 70 years. In their initial request to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, they claimed that the BLMGNF’s attempt to trademark a three-striped logo would cause customer confusion. They go on to say that BLMGNF’s application incorporates three stripes in a manner that is confusingly similar” to the company’s familiar three-stripe logo “in appearance and overall commercial impression.”

According to reports, the sneaker company’s decision to request the dismissal of the trademark was based on fear of public misinterpretation that the company’s opposition would be confused for not supporting BLMGNF’s mission.

 This came shortly after a failed attempt by Adidas to challenge fashion designer Thom Browne, who was accused of using stripes in his designs in a way that was “too similar “ to the Adidas stripes. A Manhattan Federal Jury ruled against the sneaker company.

Today’s sneaker culture has taken on a drastic change, with the increasing popularity of sneaker resellers and online stores causing sneaker store staples to close their doors indefinitely. After Eastbay closed down last year, the sneaker chain Foot Locker is downsizing its stores in order to remain in business.

Reports have confirmed that the sneaker giant will be shutting down almost 400 of its stores in malls in order to reform its approach to increase sales at their standalone locations. The company’s new “Lace Up” plan is expected to expand sneaker selections, reset the company’s loyalty program and step up the online shopping experience.

The battle between Nike and StockX wages on. After suing StockX for selling counterfeit shoes, Nike brought forth documentation revealing that a famed sneaker reseller received fake shoes from StockX.

Nice Kicks details the reseller received 38 pairs of fake sneakers. The discovery came as the reseller was seeking to purchase pairs of University Blue, Mocha, and Hyper Royal Air Jordan 1s. He was hoping to hold the sneakers for a price hike as they recently dipped. @SockJig reports the reseller is one of the main keys at the center of the lawsuit.

Nike reportedly visited the reseller to confirm the sneakers were fake and the reseller would end up receiving a full refund. StockX currently operates under the return policy, revealing, “an order is created and we are unable to offer returns, exchanges, or swaps. You can always resell the item on our platform if you no longer wish to keep it.”

The partnership also occurs as the NBA commemorates NBA supporters and players from Latin American and American Hispanic communities with its 17th annual Noches Éne•Bé•A (eh-nay-bay-ah) Latin Nights program throughout the month of March. NBA teams from all throughout the league will hold team evenings and community events that feature musical performances from Latin American musicians that are culturally appropriate, in-language digital content, events, and exclusive gifts. The Noches Éne•Bé•A promotion will be present for a few nationally televised games, including the Lakers’ game against the Phoenix Suns on March 22 at 10 p.m. ET, which will be broadcast nationwide on ESPN.

Benny the Bull, the enduring mascot of the Chicago Bulls, received a pair of brand-new sneakers from Klarna on Friday, March 3, in collaboration with internationally known designer and artist Don C.

The sneakers were created by Don C and Klarna and were inspired by the team’s 2023 City Edition Uniform. They have a rust color that is reminiscent of Chicago’s bridges and hot pink accents that match Klarna’s pink logo.

“For a kid from Chicago that grew up going to Bulls games with my dad, it’s an honor to be able to design a pair of shoes for the iconic Benny the Bull,” shared Don C. “Even beyond that, I am inspired by the opportunity to work with Klarna to connect fans just like me all around the world with this beloved team through fashion.” 

Limited-edition Just Don Courtside Hi basketball shoes were released exclusively through the Klarna app and are now available at www.klarna.com/us/justdon for $460.

Klarna has activated in the United Center, specifically with merch. How has the response from fans been, and are there any additional components on the way that we haven’t seen yet?

Fan response has been overwhelmingly positive. We are always looking for ways to make a fan’s experience smoother and have found that the community has responded to our innovative tactics. Not only are they eager to get the new merch we collaborate on, but they are also leaning into shopping smarter with our Klarna Smoooth Delivery in-seat shopping experience that allows them to purchase Bulls merch, split the cost into four interest-free payments, and get it delivered directly to their seat, so they don’t miss a moment of the game.

In an executive role, how have you felt about the partnership with the Bulls so far?

We’re now in our second year of Klarna’s partnership with the Bulls and we’re really taking the fan experience to the next level. We are continuing to challenge ourselves to deliver something truly extra to the fans in an effort to bring them closer to the game and athletes they love through unique in-arena experiences like designing and unveiling the limited edition Don C Benny the Bull shoes, delivering a new in-seat shopping experience and introducing shoppable content such as the exclusive Just Don sneakers inspired by the design for Benny.

There are so many integral features to the Bulls – including players, personnel, and announcers. What made Benny the Bull the person to wear this sneaker?

Benny is beloved by everyone, from fans to players. He is such an integral part of the Bulls, both on game day and on social media.This is our second consecutive year partnering with a Chicago artist and designer on new shoes for Benny and it’s a tradition we hope will continue as everyone needs to upgrade their kicks after a while!

The Just Don sneaker was a Klarna exclusive – will additional items be solely available on the platform?

We are constantly looking to bring moments and offerings that will create the best and smoothest experience for fans – including new merch – to fans in-arena and outside. Previously, we worked with Zach LaVine to put together collections of his game-day essentials that fans could easily shop on the Klarna app.

There is basketball family synergy here between your team, the Bulls, and Don C. How hard was it to collaborate across all entities for this specific campaign?

Not hard at all. Especially having Don C on board as Creative Strategy and Design Advisor for the Bulls, it made working together pretty seamless throughout the design process.

What is your favorite component of Benny’s sneakers?

I love how the passion for the team and the city of Chicago really shines through in Benny’s sneakers. The rust coloring is reflective of downtown Chicago’s bridges, and of course, I love to see the hot pink of Klarna in there as well.

As we are heading into this stretch run – what do you hope to see from the Chicago Bulls? and do you have any predictions?

Like all Bulls fans in Chicago and around the world, we’re going to support the team every game. Bulls fans are some of the best in all of sports, and we’re thrilled to be a part of helping them cheer on their team.

Gangsta Boo was an angel; anyone who knew her could attest to that. Joining the Memphis hip-hop group Three Six Mafia at age 14, alongside Juicy J and DJ Paul, real name Lola Chantrelle Mitchell paved the way for females to be able to rap just like the men — influencing a whole era of artists to come after.

On New Year’s Day this year, Gangsta Boo tragically passed away at age 43 in her hometown of Memphis.

Today, Gangsta Boo’s significant other and co-star of Marriage Boot Camp launches a new website, www.queenofmemphis.com, in her honor. Fans can shop exclusive hoodies and t-shirts, including ones that hail Gangsta Boo as the “Queen of Memphis.”

Proceeds from the merchandise go directly to her mother, as well as Stax Music Academy in Memphis, which will receive 10% of all sales for student tuition.

Additionally, Flores is preparing her posthumous release, The Booprint, which will be released sometime this year. Gangsta Boo’s mother has retained an attorney, and once all legal hurdles have been cleared, the project will be available on all streaming platforms. Fans can expect some high-profile features on the project.

Gangsta Boo’s mother, Veronica Mitchell, states, “My daughter Lola was my only baby girl. I was so proud when she would rap as a little girl. She called herself Tinkerbell and would always be singing her little songs. Me and her father Cedric knew she was talented, but she took it to another level chile. She became the Queen of Memphis. My baby is loved by people everywhere and it all started at home with us. That’s so amazing to me. It makes me smile ear to ear. God brought her home to be with her daddy Cedric and her brother Derron. I miss her but I know she’s happy with them. I’ll always remember telling her GO GET THEM DOLLAS, but I had no idea how many people would love my baby girl. I’m grateful all y’all support my daughter. Thank you.”

Global all-in-one shopping service Klarna today announced it is working with influential designer Don C, a native of Chicago, to create a new special edition sneaker for iconic mascot Benny the Bull that will be inspired by the team’s 2022–23 City Edition Uniform. The sneakers are part of its multiyear partnership as the official shopping partner of the storied Chicago Bulls. On March 3, Don’s most recent Just Don basketball sneaker, which was inspired by his design for Benny, will also debut in a limited edition drop with Benny’s new footwear.

Benny will get Don C’s custom-made sneakers on March 3 at the United Center during the team’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Visitors to the Klarna Concierge on the first-level arena concourse will have the chance to win a VIP prize package that includes signed Bulls apparel and limited edition Just Don items. Those who can’t make it to the game can join a sweepstakes on Bulls.com for a chance to win a limited edition Don C designed shirt, which was also inspired by his sneakers for Benny, in addition to the Just Don basketball sneaker, which will be available exclusively on Klarna on March 3.

“Klarna is excited to partner with Don C for this year’s Benny the Bull sneaker collaboration, where we merged his passion for the Bulls and the city of Chicago with our passion to bring one-of-a-kind experiences to fans,” said David Sandstrom, Chief Marketing Officer, Klarna. “We are always looking to provide more experiences to Bulls fans both in the arena and all around the world and this year we leveled up by making pairs of Benny inspired Just Don sneakers available exclusively to fans using Klarna.”

Benny’s high top sneaker has a rust-colored design that is reminiscent of Chicago’s downtown bridges and hot pink accents that are reminiscent of Klarna’s well-known pink branding. Similar to Benny’s sneaker, the Just Don sneaker sold on Klarna is a high top that was inspired by Michael Jordan and Benny’s shoe.

This is the second year in a row that Chicago-based footwear manufacturer Klarna has collaborated with an artist and designer to create new shoes for the mascot of the Bulls, having previously worked with Chuck Anderson. In order to market its all-in-one shopping service to fans and bring them closer to the game through distinctive in-arena experiences and shoppable content, Klarna signed a multi-year relationship with the Bulls in 2022.

Rihanna’s Puma Collection Set to Return: 'She's Back'

Rihanna showed up and showed out at this year’s highly-anticipated Super Bowl performance. And while she’s been thriving in motherhood, that doesn’t take away from her entrepreneurial spirit.

Today, Puma took to their Instagram page to announce that Rihanna’s Fenty collection will return with two simple words: “She’s back.” Sharing the simple post to their 12.7 million followers, in a collab post with @pumasportsstyle, Puma’s simple caption reads: “coming soon.” 

While there are no specific details on the collection, the iconic sportswear brand has had a very successful run with the “Umbrella” singer. Back in 2014, Rihanna made her mark in the fashion world by taking over as Puma’s creative director, launching a super coveted collection of footwear such as her popular Fenty x Puma Creepers sneakers and fluffy slides. She also shut down the runway at New York Fashion Week, showcasing her effortless talents in any field she enters.

Rihanna’s last clothing collection with Puma arrived six years ago, putting her all into the collection that featured one-of-a-kind athleisure looks inspired by the early 2010s. This translated into vibrant bodysuits, oversized hoodies, thigh-high boots, and thick-soled sneakers.

That same year, Rihanna got into her beauty bag by launching Fenty Beauty, rising as one of the most successful businesswomen in the history of cosmetics.

As always, Rihanna hasn’t been the most active on social media. Her last post dates back to February 16th, when she shared her viral British Vogue cover spread that featured her newborn son and baby daddy, A$AP Rocky.

While we wait for further details, the hype has certainly taken over, with fans publicly expressing excitement in the comments.

Don Crawley, professionally known as Don C, has been named the new Creative Director of Premium Goods by Mitchell & Ness, a well-known international supplier of vintage sportswear and high-end streetwear. Don C is a prominent person in streetwear culture and is frequently acknowledged as one of the most important creatives. He founded the “Just Don” brand and is the proprietor of RSVP Gallery, a Chicago, Illinois institution for fashion shopping.

The partnership between Mitchell & Ness and Don C, which began in 2011 with the introduction of the upscale Just Don hats, is strengthened by this appointment. Since then, the two have worked together on premium apparel and hat collections like “NBA Jam,” “No Name,” and others.

After Mitchell & Ness had rapid development and expansion, Don C was appointed. A strategic ownership group made up of some of the most well-known figures in sports, entertainment, and business purchased the business last year. The buyer was the global digital sports platform Fanatics.

Friday night, the Universal Hip Hop Museum and Video Music Box brought together prominent Hip Hop heads to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop fashion.

Everyone from rapper Fat Joe, Vinnie of Naughty By Nature to Stylist Misa Hylton sat front row watching fashions from the designers that dressed our favorite rap stars.

The Universal Hip Hop Museum–which opens in 2024–partnered up with the Video Music Box and the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York to kick-off the 50th Anniversary celebration of Hip Hop culture with “The Drip: 50 Years of Hip Hop Fashion,” a live runway show held at The Venue at the Hard Rock Hotel Times Square.

Nostagic videos played on the gian screen as fashion design legends Karl Kani, April Walker, FUBU and Dapper Dan revealed clothing from their newest collections.

The show also included emerging designers Malik Dupri, Haus of Swag, Riche Threads and Pepper Jacques. Mayor Eric Adams was in the building and paid homage to the groundbreaking designers, The Shirt Kings, who started in the early 80s. The fashion show also introduced I.C.Y. Inspire Creative Youth and their mission to create elevation platforms for inner city youth around the world.

DJ Ralph McDaniels, creator of Hip Hop’s longest running broadcast variety show, Video Music Box and the Video Music Box Collection has been documenting Hip Hop culture for the past 40 years. “The Drip” included footage from a decade of original “Phat Fashion” runway shows for the audience of the next generation of Hip Hop’s designer’s, influencers, and fashionistas.

Hip Hop musical guest Special Ed surprised the crowd with the Lo-Life’s and a special performance of his classics.

“For the past 50 years, Hip Hop fashion designers have carved their own lane in the fashion industry as creative entrepreneurs. Today, you can recognize Hip Hop style no matter where you see it globally,” said Universal Hip Hop Museum Executive Director Rocky Bucano.

“The Drip” is inspired by the groundbreaking Phat Fashion Show produced by Ralph McDaniels and Video Music Box. “Hip Hop’s influence on fashion is undeniable. And young Black and Brown designers and models made their own lane when the traditional fashion industry excluded them. So today, we celebrate those original trendsetters and the future leaders of Hip Hop fashion,” said Executive Producer Ralph McDaniels.

Young Dolph's Daughter Blends Fashion and Art Therapy in New 'The Aria Collection'

Young Dolph’s daughter debuted her signature, The Aria Collection, on her birthday. The line is part of the Black Men Deserve to Grow Old brand, which is known for fashion with a purpose. His daughter created the design herself, utilizing sketches she made during art therapy sessions. The collection encourages healing for young children who have lost their fathers by emphasizing creative expression.

The product is described as:

Young Dolph’s daughter, Aria, is learning how to cope and accept the passing of her father despite how challenging it is to accept such a harsh, permanent reality. With guidance from therapy, her faith community, her mother, and the support of her family – she is constantly learning how to communicate her undying love for her father through art expression. Additionally, to accompany the collection, Aria penned a poem entitled “Daughters’ Deserve Their Father.” The collection will feature selected parts of the poem and was slightly augmented to speak on behalf of all children who are grieving the loss of their father. Aria beautifully designed a heartfelt drawing that illustrates the love shared between God, father, & daughter. The design is high level screen print and comes in sweatshirts and an adult tshirt. The adult white tee retails at $55 in sizes S-2XL. A portion of the proceeds goes towards the BMDTGO Cares Fund, which helps to amplify the voices of grassroot organizations and help families who have been tragically impacted by gun violence.

Dreamville Teams with Europe's Daily Paper for New Apparel Collection

J. Cole and his Dreamville team just dropped a new garment collection in collaboration with one of Europe’s best clothing labels, Daily Paper, which is now available for purchase online and in stores in Amsterdam, London, and New York.

Both companies recreated what a Daily Paper x Dreamville University might look like with the campaign shown as a yearbook. Each team established its respective labels during its university years. The Dream Daily collection includes seven custom pieces in sandy and maroon colors, including classic varsity letterman jackets, coach jackets, sweatsuits, and hoodies.

Jordan Brand Announces NIL Sponsorship with Class of 2024 Point Guard Kiyomi McMiller

Kiyomi McMiller with the Jordan Brand has entered a name, image, and likeness (NIL) sponsorship deal. This is the first high school NIL deal for the Jordan Brand.

One of the top players in her recruiting class is the guard, who was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is renowned for her adept ball-handling and scoring prowess. In order to set the path for the upcoming generation of athletes, McMiller joins the Jordan Brand as its first high school NIL athlete.

“I’m inspired by both of my parents. I get my creativity from my dad and my grandmother, which carries over to my dribbling,” says McMiller. “I’m always in the gym with my mom and dad working on my game. It’s a dream come true being with the brand that stands for the same passion that I have for the game. I look forward to encouraging basketball players to use their creativity and platform to define their purpose.”

Phor Pope is the Co-Founder/CEO/Creative Director of D’bPhor, a fashion brand that creates an experience that is “Made Phor You.” The brand focuses on creating unique designs that are as eclectic and distinctive as the individual wearing them. Phor’s designs are guaranteed to make you the center of attention and boost your confidence to new heights. 

Phor Pope’s notable career highlights include opening up a fashion center for his brand D’bPhor, being featured in Fashion Week located in London, Paris, Milan, and New York, being nominated for Boston Designer of the Year 2022, bridging the gap between fashion and his community, being a judge for Project Runway at Northeastern University, becoming a father, having his designs featured on Time Square Billboard Ads, being published in LA Connect, and being the first designer to be featured at JAMN 94.5FM Radio Station.

Despite his successes, Phor has faced significant challenges in his life. The biggest occurred in 2021 when he and his fiancé lost their first son two weeks before his due date. During that dark time, Phor found solace in fashion design, and it became his escape and ultimately helped him heal and prosper during one of the hardest times in his life.

Phor’s dreams and aspirations for the next few years involve expanding D’bPhor and creating additional fashion centers for the brand and its loyal customers. He plans to use the continued support and further establish the strong foundation he’s built. Additionally, Phor is passionate about community building and would love to collaborate with other creatives looking to improve the culture in their area with fashion and design.

The Tatum 1 is Jayson Tatum’s first signature shoe with Jordan Brand. The Tatum 1 is the season’s lightest shoe in Jordan Brand’s performance line, and it was created for the next generation of athletes.

The Tatum 1 is a product of a his want to wear a shoe connected to his foot and featured a TPU frame, wrapped in ground-contact form acting as an integrated traction pattern. The sneaker has minimal rubber on the toe and the ball of the foot to accent Tatum’s predominantly forefoot game. The forefoot has a sizable, cage-free Zoom Air bag that helps give maximum energy return without compromising court feel. The collar is cushioned for ankle support, and the mesh knit upper is sturdy yet light.

The Tatum 1 stands out for paying special attention to the design for children. Tatum wanted a shoe that young children could easily slip on and off of. Tatum collaborated with the Jordan Brand design team to help shape a kid-friendly version of his iconic sneaker that featured an exclusive, injected TPU tailgate mechanism for simple access.

“I want people to feel like they can connect to me,” says Tatum. “I remember being a kid, walking into the store, and looking for the signature shoes of my favorite players. The moment I saw the shoe or put the shoe on, I felt like I was in sync and closer to them in a way. So, I want this shoe to be a bridge between my fans and me to bring us closer together.”

The Tatum 1 stands out for paying special attention to the design for children. Tatum wanted a shoe that young children could easily slip on and off of. Tatum collaborated with the Jordan Brand design team to help shape a kid-friendly version of his iconic sneaker that featured an exclusive, injected TPU tailgate mechanism for simple access.

The Tatum 1 releases April 7 in full family sizing.

Jim Jones Salutes Pharrell on New Louis Vuitton Position

Jim Jones is happy to see Pharrell Williams take the top spot of menswear for Louis Vuitton. Jones was tracked down by TMZ, who asked for his input on the news.

“I think that Pharrell fills the position from Virgil in a great way, and I think Virgil would be very satisfied with who they chose to pick to fill that position.”

Jones recalled when he and Cam’ron worked with Pharrell on music, and he arrived in a fur coat. Not weird, right? Except it was in the summer.

“He was already ahead of his time when it comes to fashion and things like that. I tip my hat to Pharrell. I used to call him Pharrell Chanel, but now we going to call him Pharrell Louis.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, Pharrell will take the role previously held by Virgil Abloh, who died in 2021.

Williams is the second Black American to be appointed to the head design position of the famed luxury brand.

The appointment of Pharrell looks to continue to build upon post-pandemic momentum, which has led Louis Vuitton to be the largest market-evaluated brand in Europe, launching Bernard Arnault, LVMH chairman, and CEO, over Elon Musk as the world’s richest person.

At publishing, representatives for Pharrell did not offer a comment to the WSJ.

Throughout his career, Pharrell has become one of the biggest Hip-Hop producers of all time, individually and as half of The Neptunes. In the fashion wing of his career, Pharrell partnered with Japanese fashion icon Nigo to create Billionaire Boys Club and the Ice Cream sneaker brand.

NIKE Announces 2023 Black Community Commitment Grantees and Nearly $9 in New Investments

NIKE, Inc. has announced the recipients of its 2023 Black Community Commitment Grants.

Following George Floyd’s murder in June 2020, Nike’s Black Community Commitment got underway. In order to address racial inequality for the Black community in the U.S., NIKE, Inc. committed $40 million over four years, and Jordan Brand and Michael Jordan committed $100 million over ten years. Together, they invested in, and supported organizations focused on economic empowerment, educational innovation, and social justice.

Through this exceptional commitment, three iconic brands from the NIKE, Inc. portfolio—Nike, Converse, and Jordan—are used to confront systemic racism in different ways that are intended to have a greater overall impact.

“Every day I am inspired by my teammates here at Nike who recognize the importance of the work we are doing. I’m also inspired by the various organizations we partner with who are on the ground, in our communities, committed to creating change and combatting the inequities we all face daily,” says Karol Collymore, Nike Senior Director of Inclusive Community for Social & Community Impact. 

This year, the company will contribute $8.9 million in 53 local and national nonprofit organizations that support social justice, economic empowerment, and innovation in education. The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Fearless Foundation, and BUILD are three additional new national grantees that Nike has added.

“As a proud recipient of Nike’s Black Community Commitment grant, we are dedicated to empowering Black communities and advancing our shared goals of equity and justice,” says Melanie Campbell, President & CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Convener of the Black Women’s Roundtable. “Our organization’s mission to promote Black civic engagement and racial, economic, and social justice is anchored in building values-driven coalitions centered on women and youth empowerment, leadership development, health & wellness, education and global empowerment. When our community has a seat at the table, it benefits everyone in the nation.”

For a combined $5.75 million among new and renewed national organizations, Nike is renewing seven national grantees as well. To promote equality locally, 43 organizations in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland (Ore.), Memphis, St. Louis, and Boston are among the recipients of new and renewed city grants totaling $2.4 million.

NIKE, Inc. has contributed $28.9 million through the Black Community Commitment with partners from throughout the country and specific cities since the program’s start in June 2020.

The first items in the Klutch Athletics clothing collection will meet the demand for fashionable, functional training attire for men, women, and children. The colors will be drawn from the recognizable greys of New Balance, which fade from the deepest to the lightest gray in the palette and create a fascinating visual story. A hint of green will be added to the greys to reflect the spot on the field of play where young athletes first fell in love with the game.

“Connecting community, athletes and culture is at the heart of this partnership,” said New Balance SVP of Global Apparel Julie Pike. “With this in mind, we created intentional pieces that blend performance and style to deliver training apparel for the next generation of athletes. Our hope is these intentional pieces become the most loved items in the athletes’ wardrobe.”

The garment collection was created with Klutch Athletics Chief Design Officer David Creech and the world-class design team at New Balance.

“We designed the line to help athletes perform their best and look good while doing it,” Creech said. “It will deliver products for all athletes, regardless of sport or gender. We understand what athletes want – product that helps them perform while reflecting the love they have for sport and their community. Every design element of Klutch Athletics apparel has a story, from the branding to the color palette to the product details – everything has a purpose.”

Starting on April 27, customers may buy the first clothing collection from Klutch Athletics online and at a few chosen retailers. For t-shirts, suggested retail prices range from $40 to $120.

Rihanna Honors André Leon Talley During Super Bowl Halftime Performance

Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance featured the announcement of her pregnancy, but it also featured a tribute to late Vogue legend André Leon Talley.

Near the end of her performance, while performing “Umbrella,” Rihanna put on a red leather, floor-length, Alaïa puffer jacket. Page Six notes the jacket resembles Talley’s signature scarlet Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat. Talley’s official Instagram page also celebrated the moment by using Umbrella lyrics: “When the sun shines, we’ll shine together. Told you I’ll be here forever… said I’ll always be your friend.”

Talley died in January 2022. According to GQ, his cause of death was a heart attack but a longtime friend said he passed away of COVID complications and had underlying health issues related to his weight. Talley was often considered a trailblazer and prominent voice for advocating for diversity in the global fashion industry. Frequently seen in giant, flowing robes, the beloved ‘Godfather of Fashion’ was a true force to be reckoned with.

Talley first joined Vogue in 1983 as its fashion news director, and subsequently became the magazine’s first African-American male creative director from 1988 until 1995, working closely with editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

In 2020, he published The Chiffon Trenches, a memoir about his life. The book chronicles his life from his childhood in North Carolina to his coverage of the biggest fashion trends in New York and around the world.

Reebok has released “Pump Universe,” a revisionist footwear collection that reimagines its most iconic historical sneakers, on the 32nd anniversary of Dee Brown’s historic ‘no-look’ dunk contest performance that launched the brand’s “Pump” technology into prominence. “Pump Universe” volume one, starring Question Pump and Shaq Victory Pump, will be available on Reebok.com and the Foot Locker family of brands on Feb. 17. What if Reebok’s game-changing “Pump” technology was included into all of its shoes? What if the Blacktop series was about tennis? What if Club C 85 was truly released in 1995? “Pump Universe” will investigate these other realities in two chapters.

“Pump Universe” chapter 1 rewrites the history of Allen Iverson’s trademark Question and the training staple Legacy Lifter III, while Shaq’s signature Shaq Attaq crosses over to the tennis court, led by the introduction of Pump technology to three essential Reebok sport and training models.

The Shoe Surgeon was contacted by LeBron’s team and Nike Basketball to develop this particular bespoke shoe, which is sure to become a desirable collector’s item for sneaker connoisseurs and LeBron fans alike. This cooperation exemplifies LeBron’s effect on basketball and his dedication to creating memorable moments for his fans.

This limited edition shoe is created with the highest quality materials and boasts an authentic white croc top and a golden iridescent swoosh. The marble leather provides a luxurious touch, while the ice soles honor the date LeBron broke the record, and the XX Roman numerals on the tongue indicate 20, representing his 20th year in the NBA.

In the third quarter of the Lakers’ Tuesday night game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Bron elevated over the Thunder defense to drop in a fadeaway jumper and capture the record.

After getting the bucket, the game was paused, allowing King James to celebrate with his fans and close friends. Bron would also deliver a speech at the moment to the Lakers fans.

“I write ‘The Man In The Arena’ on my shoe every single night from Theodore Roosevelt,” James said to ESPN in postgame. “Tonight, I actually felt like I was sitting on top of the arena when that shot went in, and the roar from the crowd. I’m not sure if I would be able to feel that feeling again, unless it’s a game-winning Finals shot.

“Everything just stopped. It gave me an opportunity to embrace it and look around and seeing my family, the fans, my friends. It was pretty cool. I probably can count on my hands how many times I have cried in 20 years, either in happiness or in defeat. So that moment was one of them when I kind of teared up a little bit. It was ‘I can’t believe what’s going on’ tears.”

The moment was christened with a passing of the torch moment from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to James. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was also present for the moment.

Inside a sold-out Staples Center was Denzel Washington, JAY-Z, Bad Bunny, LL Cool J, Dwyane Wade, Magic Johnson, and more.

Unfortunately, the Lakers lost the game, but they will look to rectify that on Thursday when they host Giannis Antentokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Blue Ivy Steals The Show in Icy Park Campaign

Beyoncé’s Ivy Park clothing line is not having nearly the demand that her concert tickets are.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Queen Bey’s partnership with Adidas has “weak sales,” resulting in a $200 million deficit in the annual projects for the sportswear giant.

In 2022, Adidas projected Ivy Park to hit a mark of $250 million in sales. Instead, the brand only made $40 million, a drop by over 50%. The Ivy Park brand is a loss for Adidas, which also has to pay $20 million annually to the Renaissance hitmaker.

The deal tying Beyoncé to Adidas is set to end in 2023. The brand is publicly referring to the partnership as “strong and successful.”

“We continue to be inspired by our collective vision and are proud of the work we have created together,” the company said.

Ivy Park made its debut in 2016, featuring running shorts and other athletic wear, bags, and accessories. Beyoncé took sole control of the brand in 2018, entering the partnership with Adidas in 2019.

Adidas has finally shut down the YeezySupply website, finalizing the end of its partnership with Kanye West. The move comes months after the footwear company ended its collaboration with Ye after his anti-semitic tirade last year.

While the link to the website is still searchable, the URL no longer directs users to a functioning domain. Instead, users are given an “error” message.

While the website may be gone, Adidas reportedly sits on half a billion dollars worth of Yeezy inventory. After they announced the end of their partnership with Ye, Adidas Chief Financial Officer Harm Ohlmeyer said that Adidas would be releasing the Yeezy stock as early as 2023 but without any Yeezy branding, despite the branding on the shoes being minimal, and in some cases, unnoticeable.

“Let me be clear, we own all the IP, we own all the designs, we own all the versions and new colorways,” Ohlmeyer said. He added that Adidas would save $302 million in marketing and royalties since they no longer have to pay the Yeezy business.

Despite being stripped of his billionaire status, Ye seems relatively unfazed by being dropped by every company he is partnered with. He has been relatively quiet since only dropping a couple of songs not on DSPs and being caught in videos arguing with the paparazzi.

Despite ending his partnership with Adidas, Ye still owns the Yeezy name and still has s dedicated fanbase that eagerly waits for him to drop new apparel.

West coast hip hop veterans and California-based rappers Snoop Dogg, E-40, Too Short, and Ice Cube surprised fans in 2020 when they formed the group Mount Westmore. Their debut album, titled Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort, officially released in 2022.


Now the supergroup is back with a surprise collection with Forever 21.
Each member is implanted in the Golden State’s rich cultural history and diversity. The new collection features five gender-neutral pieces, including a jacket, sweatshirt and a variety of shirt styles. All items in the collection feature the iconic Mount Westmore logo, as well as custom design elements that pay tribute to the group’s California roots.

Dreamville is introducing a number of new apparel pieces today as part of the brand’s 2023 collection, with each new item on sale beginning tomorrow, Friday, January 27 at 3:00 p.m. ET via Dreamville.com.

The new garment slate features a number of new unisex silhouettes in the Premium classics collection including the team’s first-ever puffer jacket, which also highlights the debut of the team’s custom Dreamville-branded zipper. This custom-designed cloud-printed jacket features the iconic Dreamville logo spelled out in bright yellow letters set atop a black zippered backdrop, a new manufacturing process that took years in the making to develop.

The rest of the new clothing collection will include cloud-printed basketball shorts, matching grey hoodie and sweatpants sets, and the classic Dreamville logo-printed black pants, t-shirts, and shorts; as well as the debut of Dreamville’s first-ever tear-away logo-printed pants and quilted coaches jackets. Limited quantities of each item are available so fans are encouraged to act fast and purchase today.

Dreamville’s apparel division within the larger Dreamville Ventures umbrella company continues to be led by longtime partner and Apparel President Adam Roy. Gap’s latest campaign pays tribute to Stephen “tWitch” Boss, passed away by suicide at 40 years old on December 13. Prior to his sudden passing, the adored “Ellen DeGeneres Show” DJ and dancer, posed in front of the camera for The Gap’s upcoming collaboration with Haitian-owned menswear label The Brooklyn Circus.

Boss began his career alongside Degeneres as a guest DJ for her talk show in 2014 and  became a co-executive producer in 2020. The  Gap × The Brooklyn Circus campaign features other stars such as “Pose” actress Indya Moore, “Euphoria” star Javon Walton and model and activist Bethann Hardison.

This collaboration “explores the concepts of individuality, movement and modern prep — blending academia, music and Black culture and street style from the 1960s through today,” said the press release. 

Over the last 50 years, The Gap has expanded into seven different brands, especially loved by active consumers of different crafts. Signature styles from both brands are represented, like the cuffed chinos and varsity jacket modeled by Boss in the campaign.

“The Brooklyn Circus and Gap share in the heartbreaking loss of beloved icon Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, who was a longtime supporter of the BKc community, [founder and creative director] Ouigi’s work and a core part of this campaign thanks to his personal friendship with Ouigi Theodore,” a press release for the campaign reads.

Allison Holker Boss, the late dancer and choreographer’s wife, shared a sentimental statement as well that read, “When Stephen and I first saw his images from the campaign, it brought tears to our eyes. He was so moved by how they captured his true essence, and he was excited for the world to see them. We pay tribute to Stephen’s life by sharing these images in homage to the joy and light he brought to everyone around him.”

He and Holker celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary just days before his death. They have three children together: Weslie, 14, Maddox, 6, and Zaia, 3.

Gap further announced that it will support the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by donating to Vibrant Emotional health in Boss’ honor. This organization provides free and confidential around-the-clock emotional support and care to those in need.

The line will be released on both brands’ websites Tuesday and will also be available to shop at select Gap stores as well as The Brooklyn Circus’ Boreum Hill flagship location.

Keeping Score, the first co-branded collaboration between PUMA and Creative Director June Ambrose will be released. This new collection honors Ambrose’s career and legacy in hip-hop and fashion, examines the concept of reflection and encourages women to keep track of their victories.

The 20-piece clothing, footwear, and accessories collection will be released in two parts. The initial drop, which will consist of ten pieces in a rich burgundy and blue colorway, is available now.

The initial product release includes reversible shorts and beanies, a removable mesh jersey sports bra, a balaclava, color block leggings, and an oversized sweatshirt, all while staying loyal to her priority of fusing fashion with function. The Hood Hall of Famer tee and the runaway maxi to midi skirt are standouts. This drop will also include new versions of the iconic Ralph Sampson sneaker and the design-forward Prevail sneaker.

June continues to be a blueprint for all generations of women, stressing the value of honoring oneself, from the dominance of streetwear and sneaker culture to the inflow of hip-hop into high design. June’s objective has been to showcase and inspire women since joining the sportswear brand in 2020 as the Creative Director for the Women’s Basketball category, recognizing that life is a team sport and that we all play to win.

Ambrose says the designs are to “only compete against the best versions of themselves; our gives are our gets. Let’s make this year count, let the cook begin Keeping Score.”

Nike has taken the next move after companies that they claim have copied their shoe designs. Last year they filed lawsuits against Kool Kiy and Omi for copying the Jordan 1 and Dunk design, and now, they are aiming BAPE for stealing multiple shoe designs.

Since BAPE started selling the Bapesta sneaker, a clear derivative of the Air Force 1, many have wondered why Nike never took legal action against them. A little over 20 years after the Bapesta was first released, Nike filed a formal lawsuit against BAPE for copying many of their designs on Wednesday.

In a graphic chart, Nike showed the blazing similarities between their trademarked silhouettes and the different sneakers produced by BAPE. The visual shows the comparisons between Bape’s Bape Sta and the Air Force 1, the Bape Sta Mid and the Air Force 1 Mid, the Sk8 Sta and the Dunk, Court Sta High and the Air Jordan 1, and Court Sta and the Air Jordan 1 Low.

As for why it took 20+ years to file a lawsuit against BAPE, Nike said that they met with BAPE in 2009 to discuss the designs, which resulted in BAPE closing most of its U.S. stores and diminishing its presence in the U.S. market. The Bapesta was redesigned in 2016 to resemble the Air Force 1 less, but was re-released in 2021 as the original version. That’s when Nike decided to take legal action against BAPE formally.

Jordan Brand is partnering with the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation to auction off 23 rare pairs of the Christopher Wallace Air Jordan 13.

Initially designed in 2017 to commemorate The NOTORIOUS B.I.G.’s 45th birthday, the unreleased sneakers were kept under wraps until lately. The year 2023, which reflects Michael Jordan’s renowned jersey number and the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, serves as the cornerstone for the relationship, culminating with the Jordan Year 2023 Campaign.

Because of the NOTORIOUS B.I.G.’s effect on hip-hop culture and beyond, 2023 is an appropriate year to communicate a message of self-belief with the globe. The sneakers, which have the shape of Wallace on the tongue and slogans celebrating the rapper’s dedication, will be available exclusively at Sotheby’s.

The sock liner is made of a classic red and black checkered flannel design, a look synonymous with The NOTORIOUS B.I.G. The famed statements “It was all a dream” and “If you didn’t know, now you know” are written on the tongue tag. The aglet is imprinted with the word “dream” on the shoelaces.

“This Air Jordan 13 has been reinterpreted to celebrate the legacy of The NOTORIOUS B.I.G., someone who reached for the stars, had the boldest of dreams, with the work ethic to back it up,” explained Reggie Saunders, Vice President of Entertainment Marketing for Jordan Brand.

“This is just the beginning of a journey for us as a brand in 2023,” Shannon Watkins, Chief Marketing Officer at Jordan Brand, explained. “We want to use the power of our Jordan heritage to energize and accelerate self-belief all year long.”

Brahm Wachter, Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectables at Sotheby’s, added, “We are thrilled that the Jordan Brand and the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation have entrusted Sotheby’s with these exclusive pairs of sneakers honoring the legacy of The NOTORIOUS B.I.G. as part of the Jordan Year 2023 celebration. The auction marks the only opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike to acquire these special limited-edition sneakers that bring together the legacies of the greatest athlete of all time with the greatest rapper ever.”

From Jan. 23 through Feb. 3, 23 pairs of the Christopher Wallace Air Jordan 13 will be auctioned off in an exclusive online auction. The shoes will be offered with an estimated $2,300 – 5,200 and auctioned without reserve, which means that opening bids will begin at $1. The auction proceeds will go to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, which aims to empower inner-city youth through educational learning instruments, sponsorships, grants, and community-based mentorship programs and campaigns, all by its motto, Think B.I.G. “Books Instead of Guns.”

Air Jordan Retro 11 'DMP' Rumored for 2023 Holiday Season Release

It’s still January, and sneakerheads are already looking ahead to Christmas releases. Jordan Brand is rumored to bring back a special edition of the Retro 11, the Defining Moments Pack edition.

The DMP Retro 11 first appeared in 2006 alongside the Retro 6 of the same name. The Retro 11 is reminiscent of the original Concord 11, bringing in Gold elements, specifically to the Jumpman logo and heel tag. Sneaker source ZSneakerHeadz detail that the sneaker will arrive this Holiday season with a $225 price tag.

The news of the sneaker comes after dissapointemnt of a potential re-release of both the Columbia and Gamma colorways of the Retro 11 being nixed. Additional sneakers being released this year in a stacked year for Jordan BRand include White Cement 3s, Thunder Retro 4, Wheat Jordan 13, and Playoff 13.
