With Raggaeton remaining a dominant force on TikTok, Karol G, and Shakira’s “TQG” found a way to break through and become the top trending Latin song on the platform last week. Traditional and regional Latin genres that don’t get as much radio airplay have seen improved commercial success because of TikTok.

Regional Mexican music, a catch-all word that incorporates genres like norteo, corridos, and banda, is leading the charge. This genre went from being absent to a mainstay on the Billboard charts, in part due to the success of regional songs on TikTok. Both “Soy Él Unico” by Yahritza y Su Esencia and “Botella Tras Botella,” which first gained popularity as an original sound on TikTok, debuted at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021. “Botella Tras Botella” (344k video productions) by Christian Nodal & Gera.MX was the first regional Mexican hit to chart on the Hot 100.

Mexican regional music is having a big year on TikTok, and Peso Pluma, a 23-year-old singer, is leading the push. Peso Pluma, who has over 1.6 million TikTok followers, is behind some of the year’s biggest hits, such as the Natanael Cano collaboration “PRC” (261k video creations), which gained popularity thanks to a dance that utilizes the song’s distinctive trumpet hook, and the Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma joint effort “Ella Baila Sola,” which generated over 470k video creations.

Peso is currently in the spotlight thanks to his collaboration with Yng Lvcas, “La Bebe,” which generated over 40k creations and peaked as #2 on TikTok’s list of the week’s most popular songs. Peso Pluma has five singles that have reached the Billboard Hot 100 as a result of TikTok, including “PRC” (#64), “La Bebe” (#26), and “Ella Baila Sola,” which recently reached the highest-charting position for a regional Mexican song in chart history at #17.

Bad Bunny announced that he launched a new sports management agency, Rimas Sports, in partnership with Rimas Entertainment. Rimas Sports will offer a variety of services, including agent management, brand relations and marketing, public relations, performance and skills training, financial advisors, concierge, and logistics. The company will cater to the Latin community. 

Hall of Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez will serve as an ambassador for the company. On Rimas’ list of clients are two of the most prominent players in the SF Giants organization: infielder Wilmer Flores and shortstop Marco Luciano. Toronto Blue Jays infielder Santiago Espinal, an All-Star last year, has also joined Rimas Sports.

The partnership also occurs as the NBA commemorates NBA supporters and players from Latin American and American Hispanic communities with its 17th annual Noches Éne•Bé•A (eh-nay-bay-ah) Latin Nights program throughout the month of March. NBA teams from all throughout the league will hold team evenings and community events that feature musical performances from Latin American musicians that are culturally appropriate, in-language digital content, events, and exclusive gifts. The Noches Éne•Bé•A promotion will be present for a few nationally televised games, including the Lakers’ game against the Phoenix Suns on March 22 at 10 p.m. ET, which will be broadcast nationwide on ESPN.

Ozuna is also featured on the song “A Correr Los Lakers” which has more than 75 million views on YouTube.

Bad Bunny is set to bring a WWE Premium Live Event, formerly known as a pay-per-view, to his home of Puerto Rico. WWE made the announcement on Wednesday.

The event will be WWE Backlash, and it will be the first live WWE event in Puerto Rico since January 2005.

“In 2005 when I was a kid, I wasn’t able to attend New Year’s Revolution at el Coliseo,” said Bad Bunny. “Finally, 18 years later WWE returns to the island with a massive event and this time I won’t miss it.”

There is widespread agreement that musical experience significantly alters the human psyche. 12ayo is just one of many musicians who have found healing and peace of mind in music creation and performance. As 12yo put it, “The power of music lies in its potential to evoke emotions you never knew you could feel. It’s a great way to get things off your chest, and it’s helped me immensely with processing my feelings and maintaining my sanity.” 

12ayo is a musician from East Los Angeles, California, who has family in Mexico and El Salvador. His barber saw potential in him, so he suggested he give music a shot. 12ayo was curious and willing to give it a shot despite having zero background in the field. He wrote his debut song, “Muevelo,” which was inspired by his feelings at the time, after teaching himself the fundamentals of music production via YouTube videos.

Now an experienced musician, 12ayo’s songs are direct expressions of his inner life. “I set up a conducive, alcohol-free work environment and presented my producer with a detailed description of my proposed project. After finishing the rhythm, I mumble until I find a melody that sticks with me, at which point I start writing “in the words of a 12 year old.

As a self-reliant musician, 12ayo can attest to the healing potential of music for the mind. His music serves as an important therapeutic outlet for him. 12ayo states, “Music can help you forget about your problems and relax your mind.”

Evidence suggests that listening to music can improve mental health by alleviating stress, despair, and anxiety. A study in the Journal of Advanced Nursing suggests that listening to music can help those with mental health problems. According to the results, listening to music can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and boost one’s disposition.

12ayo also thinks that making music that reflects one’s ethnic background might improve one’s mental health. “Including elements from your own culture in your music can help you feel more connected to it and to the world. It’s a nice way to feel a part of something bigger than yourself and can bring you a sense of peace of mind, too “– 12 year old.

Finally, 12ayo’s career in the music industry is proof that music can mend broken hearts and calm troubled minds. 12ayo’s journey from an East L.A. barbershop to a successful music career is proof that anything is achievable with hard work, devotion, and a willingness to try new things. Making music can be therapeutic whether you’re experiencing mental health challenges or are just seeking for a way to express yourself creatively. Just like 12ayo said “For me, music is a therapeutic outlet for processing feelings and improving my state of mind. Traveling there is an experience you should have.”

The Coachella lineup is officially released. Bad Bunny, Frank Ocean and BLACKPINK will host the 2023 festival.

The two-weekend 2023 run will take over the desert from April 14 to 16 and April 21 to 23. Additional names on the bill include Pusha T, Burna Boy, Idris Elba, Metro Boomin, Kaytranada, The Kid LAROI, 070 Shake, A Boogie, Kali Uchis, and Rae Sremmurd.

For Ocean, this is a return to the lineup after he was scheduled for the 2020 festival but was unable to perform due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bunny joins after a historic 2022, which landed him as one of The SOURCE’s Top Five Artists of the year and set marks that not many have ever touched.

Daddy Yankee’s farewell tour was highly successful. The legendary star’s La Ultima Vuelta World Tour was the second-biggest tour by a Latin artist in history, grossing $198 million.

Daddy Yankee concluded his tour at Miami’s FTX Arena on Thursday (Dec. 22), bringing in $197.8 million and 1.9 million tickets sold over 83 shows.

The tour began in July at Denver Ball Arena, wrapping the first leg after 33 shows. According to Billboard, the U.S. and Canada dates earned $61.6 million for Yankee.

LEGENDADDY, Daddy Yankee’s farewell album, was also the World’s #1 Latin Album. LEGENDADDY debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums List, marking his fifth straight #1 debut on the chart. In addition, it debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200, reaching his greatest rank on the chart to date and his first Top 10 since 2007’s El Cartel: The Big Boss. It has also climbed to the top of the Spotify Weekly Top Albums Global Chart, with over 326 million global streams.

In just three days, Daddy Yankee’s farewell album, LEGENDADDY, racked up over 175 million cumulative streams. It’s also took over Spotify globally, reaching #1 on the Global Album Chart, and he’s had the largest streaming day of his career on Spotify, with 35.7 million streams—nearly double his previous career-high.

“Today, I’m announcing my retirement from music by giving you my best production and concert tour,” said Daddy Yankee ahead of the tour. “I will say goodbye celebrating these 32 years of experience with this new collector’s item, my album Legendaddy. I’m going to give you all the styles that have defined me in one single album.”

The Source tapped in with Sadboy Loko over the summer via Zoom to speak on his new album, new direction, his relationship with YG now, and so much more. Check out the full interview below.

[Bryson “Boom” Paul]: Knowing what you’ve gone through leading up to this album. How does it feel to see this project come to fruition?

[Sadboy Loko]: I mean, like you said, it was an up and down, smiles and frown. Little rollercoaster, but I mean, I don’t try to look back at the pack. The past is just the future. It’s cool. Brighter day. I’m free, I’m out. I was about to drop August 12th, Sin Fronteras, so it’s like, it’s cool. I’m not even tripping. I’m free, freedom at its best, baby.

How’d it feel getting back into recording for this project?

It was cool. Well, with this one, it was just, man, Cricket knows what’s up. It was just like two studio sessions, in and out. We were quick. It was like vibing. It was different. The beginning was something different because of the regional sound, but once started turning up with him, like, man, it was on go, gas.

You released I’m Still Here 2 before this. Describe the growth in your music from then to now?

I mean, you can hear it in the lyrics. It’s just evolved, business type now, you know what I mean? I’m trying to just get the money. Before, it was all gang bang, all this hood, straight hood shit. Now it’s more like life experiences, you know what I mean? Like what you said, I went through ups and downs. So I describe it in the music.

Now a changed man.  Can you still listen to your older music?

My first records? Yeah. I look back at them and I’m like, damn, I was on some savage, just disrespectful at school, you know what I mean? Now it’s like, all right. You know what I mean? Just mellow it out, just shit that motherfuckers can vibe to, you know what I mean?

You came out of a bid into an all-new, all-different world in post-COVID.  How did you adapt?

Well, you got to remember when I got out, I got out to that COVID, like the lockdown. So it was from lockdown to lockdown, but I mean at least still had a little bit of freedom, you know what I mean? But it was just you couldn’t go nowhere. Everything was deserted. But now it’s cool. I get to enjoy the summer. Summertime jams on there. You got a few jams in there for the summer. So it’s perfect. I’m just waiting on it.

You did pretty much a revamp of Summer Nights, I would say, obviously a West Coast classic. For those that don’t know, it’d be a worldwide classic. But how’d it feel when you heard the beat for the first time and then just like, All right, bet, I’m go with this. I’m going to run with it?

Just the vibe. The vibe. You can’t, you know what I mean, can’t control the vibe. If it’s a vibe, it’s a vibe. You start vibing to it, turned it up. You know, smoke breaks in between and just gas it.

Now back to the making of this project. To you, what is your favorite moment during the making of the album?

Most of the corridos, like the regional, because that’s something different for me. I’ve been around it all my life. But to actually do one, wow, that ain’t never happened. Cricket knew what he was doing. So it was just like once I got into the vibe, he was smart. He popped out bottles and everything. Damn near… Instead of a wine tasting, it was like a tequila tasting at the studio and then it just started vibing to it. That one was just different. Turning out two actual pretty cool corridos that I’ve never done mixed with hip hop and shit.

How was your mental health going into making this project?

I’m good. I’m healthy. I’m probably the healthiest I’ve ever been, even when I was young. I’m like here drug-free. You know what I mean? I like smoking, just drinking. So it’s cool. You know what I mean?

Explain the importance of this project to you?

It’s important because it’s one for one thing, like a bucket list. Mine was a bucket list thing. I’ve been, for several reasons, because I’ve already I did the whole YG thing, you know what I mean, with the industry. So that was more of a turn-up for me and my homies. We down here party for three, four years, you know what I mean? So it’s just a turn-up experience. Now this one was my family. My parents could enjoy this, you know what I mean? This is their shit, their type of vibe. Hey, pa, you want to go to a show? I got you as if, hey homie, you want to go to show, VIP, I got you. It’s more like, you know what I mean? Bucket list check-offs and shit. I got to work with legends from our people, you know what I mean?

Did you have the most fun making this project that you’ve had in a long time?

Yeah, this album was fun making. It was just a vibe, man. Like a turn up. I was in there, what, two sessions, back to back. It was a rap. Like every session, I play something, boom, just start playing it. Vibe out, smoke, smoke outs and then just straight to it. Some of it should just get freestyled out like, oh shit, get me in there, let me do it real quick. Boom. It’s just a vibe. Some of them, there was already a verse there for me, like a feature. So just it was gas on, like, oh he got off. All right, wait up motherfucker, hold it.

How’d you come out with a whole album in two sessions?

Man, it is just the production. Once you put good production, you got the solid. It’s… No, you don’t have to sit there and choose from what’s hot and what’s not. If you already got solid ass production, the fuck. It’s pick whatever you want. Let’s roll.

Now you mentioned YG. A lot of people would want to ask, man, what is your guys’ relationship like now?

We cool. I just talked to him last month. We cool. I mean, he’s doing his thing, I’m doing mine, you know what I mean? I’m over here doing Latin music, so I mean, we straight, you know what I mean? Shout out to the boy.

Explain the energy in this album?

They going to feel it. Once you bump it, make sure you bump it, but don’t blow all your speakers. I don’t want you to blame me for that shit, you know what I mean. But once you bump it, you’re going to feel it. It’s just some good vibe shit. like summer. It’s a summer experience. It’s like a perfect summer album. It’s going to have all your… You’re going to run, go through it, and then boom, that love jam, you’re going to probably be with your lady, you know what I mean? It’s just a vibe. There’s a drinking jam in that you probably want to drink, you know what I mean? Man, it’s a little bit of everything You can fuck to it, drink to it, bang to it, whatever you want.

You did the major label thing. So what are some things that you learned that you not only adapted to your own business?

I mean, for main thing you got to do is brand yourself. Ain’t nobody going to brand you. Ain’t nobody going to like, oh this is… Brand yourself. Make a name for yourself. You know what I mean? Your brand is everything. You know what I’m saying? It might become a motto at the beginning, but once you push, it is going to become a thing that people like, shit, damn near live by. You know what I mean? So it’s at that time, like I said, I was just partying and then now if I… Man, take this business serious, you know what I mean? Instead of turning up with that person, network with that person. You feel me?

Now six albums in and at a turning point in your career. What is your outlook on your career moving forward?

I mean, bright future, you know what I mean? Sky’s the limit. I’m just trying to do the most with it. Whatever I can, I’m going to do it. Take full advantage. Like I said, I’m free, so I’m no limit to what I’m not going to do. You know what I mean? See if I could, I’ll drop another one, back to back. How contracts go, like hold up. I’d be back to back on these motherfuckers.

What is something new you learned about yourself during the making of this project?

I damn near can do it all. I mean, you know, never expected something like you throw yourself into something, like, nah, I can’t do that. I tried it, and it came out cool.

Explain the importance of sticking with one producer on a project?

It’s more of me. See, I have, my emails are filled with beats that are from different producers, but there’s only certain producers that will know you and your sound with you. You know what I mean? It was like damn near Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre back then, you know what I mean? Or YG to a Mustard in their generation. You know what I mean? So it’s like you got to know your own producer. So it’s like, man, they make bangers together, so damn near when your fans are like, oh, they just linked up. Oh shit, okay, it’s back. He’s not fucking around no more.

As in you’re trying everybody’s sound, now you’re trying to do their sound, not yours. You feel me? Unless you’re right there with that motherfucking producer and you can go through his whole fucking catalog then, by all means. But if he’s just sending you one or two, that’s not your sound. That’s his sound, his preference that he think the sickest production, he thinks are sick, that will fit to you. You feel me? As in that producer for you and make me… He knows what you like, he knows your shit, he knows your collabs. He knows everything. You know what I mean? It’s just homemade.

How did you feel divulging more about yourself personally on this project that you know fans are going to find out about?

On this one, they’re going to be more surprised on that rock jam. I got a rock jam in there. They’re going to trip out. If they don’t read it off the track listing and they just go down to shuffle, you’re in for a surprise. They’re like what the, But I mean it is music. Once you hear it out you’re like, oh, that’s sick. But something new. I mean, all the love jams, like the summertime jams. I got some party jams in there. You like man, Sadboy just did a pizza with all toppings.

Now we know your name is Sadboy. But we got to ask because the ladies want to know, are you in love right now?

I mean, loving ain’t hard to find, but I’m numb to it. But I mean, you never know, you know what I mean? I can find it.

Let’s talk about Chicano music. What is the current state, in your opinion, of Chicano music?

We’re up there. I mean, Latinos in general, they’re up there. It’s like right now you can’t go anywhere without seeing or hearing a Latino, you know what I mean? Anywhere, even TV, as far as TV, radio, anything, you can’t, It’s just everywhere. So Chicanos right now, it’s been going on, but now it’s the top perfect timing. It’s like right there. Everybody’s getting heard and there’s a lot of talent. So it’s perfect. I mean, as in back then, it was just rare. You hear people rap, there was only a few. Now I got out and it’s like, damn, a whole generation of rappers. But I mean, that’s cool, because it’s a lot of talent.

How do you balance not only just being labeled as a Chicano rapper, but just being a superstar rapper in general or a superstar artist?

I mean, I don’t even label it even as Chicano. It’s just music to me. You know what I mean? I do the shit with the passions, for passion type of shit. So it’s like, I don’t really divide it or anything like that, you know what I mean? So it’s just music, some good music turned up to, you know?

How do you balance giving people that old Sadboy and giving people that new Sadboy?

They got one. They got that for Gangster for Life, that’s all. You know what I mean? They got that flashback, you know what I mean? So they couldn’t be mad at me at the whole album. But I mean, either way, you’re going to hear some songs, you be like, oh shit, that’s right. It’s just updated. You feel me?

What are some new life choices you’ve adapted to your lifestyle?

Make yourself a priority. You break yourself trying to make the next person happy. Once you make yourself a priority and numb everything out, you’re straight. You’re good.

Year 1 headliners include Tito “El Bambino” and De La Ghetto, two Latin Grammy Award-winning pioneers of reggaeton, who will be joined by two of today’s hottest up-and-coming Latin music stars, including Cuban-born Corrido singer/songwriter Ovi and Latin trap rapper Ovi, as well as Miami-born songstress Mariah Angeliq, also known as “La Princesa de Miami” (The Princess of Miami).

This new festival event will be held at Southside Park Amphitheater, a 19.9-acre public park with plenty of greenery located in the southwest corner of downtown Sacramento. However, the festival will purposefully cap festival attendance the following spring in order to ensure a secure and satisfying experience for first-time visitors. The organizers anticipate a favorable economic impact on the local Sacramento community as a result of the abundance of dining, transportation, and lodging options in the neighborhood.

Spotify Wrapped is all over your timeline, and one man you may see a lot is Bad Bunny. According to Variety, Bad Bunny leads the list of most-listened-to artists for the third year straight.

More than 18.5 billion plays of Bad Bunny music have been created on Spotify this year, and his album “Un Verano Sin Ti” was the No. 1 most streamed album globally.

Spotify recognizes Bad Bunny’s success through several Wrapped 2022 campaigns, such as billboards and posters posted on the streets of several cities asking people to perform a word search to uncover the most streamed artist.

Following Bad Bunny was Taylor Swift, the most streamed female artist of the year. Drake, The Weeknd, and BTS ranked among the top five on the list.

The most streamed single was Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” and the most popular podcast is The Joe Rogan Experience.

According to several confirmed reports, the U.S. Embassy has sent out an official statement, warning “darker -skinned” American citizens that plan to visit the Dominican Republic that they might be profiled as Haitian migrants, therefore wrongfully detained because of their skin color.

The Dominican Republic has recently become more strict on Haitian immigrants, which means that anyone in the DR with dark skin(Black and/or African descent) and appear to be Haitian run the risk of being detained by authorities, according to the Embassy. The Embassy also reported that the Dominican Migration (DGM) is in the midst of conducting a countrywide investigation, which is focusing on the rising population of undocumented immigrants, mainly from the neighboring country of Haiti.

The notice, which was sent out last week(November 19), says that those who are detained are sent to “overcrowded detention centers”, with little or no access to food or restrooms.

The warning reads:

“This message is to advise U.S. citizens that in recent months travelers to the Dominican Republic have reported being delayed, detained, or subject to heightened questioning at ports of entry and in other encounters with immigration officials based on their skin color. Reports of disparate treatment of U.S. citizens by Dominican authorities are a matter of ongoing concern to the U.S. Embassy.

In addition, in recent days, as reported in Dominican media, Dominican Migration (DGM) agents have conducted widespread operations aimed at detaining those they believe to be undocumented migrants, especially persons of Haitian descent. In some cases, authorities have not respected these individuals’ legal status in the Dominican Republic or nationality. These actions may lead to increased interaction with Dominican authorities, especially for darker skinned U.S. citizens and U.S. citizens of African descent. There are reports that detainees are kept in overcrowded detention centers, without the ability to challenge their detention, and without access to food or restroom facilities, sometimes for days at a time, before being released or deported to Haiti.”

Dominican authorities immediately refuted the Embassy’s claims, citing that the Embassy’s cautionary alert was “manifestly unfounded, untimely.” D.R. officials also pointed out their long-term allegiance with the United States, alleging that they would never deliberately profile visitors solely based on their skin color.

“The Dominican government never could have imagined there would be such a harsh insinuation made about our country, much less from an ally that has been subject to accusations of xenophobic and racist treatment of migrants, including in parts of its own population,” wrote the Dominican Foreign Ministry.

Videos have surfaced all over the internet of Haitians being brutalized by police and authorities in the Dominican Republic, with the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk pleading with the DR government to stop the mass deportation of Haitians. President Louis Abinader has set off an aggressive plan to rid the DR of anyone illegally living in the country.

Since the deportation initiative, 140,000 Haitian migrants have been deported from the Dominican Republic, with a new report stating that hundreds of Haitian children are being deported from the DR without their parents.

Despite the fact that Haiti has been submerged in conflict ever since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July 2021, including a cholera outbreak which has crippled the country’s citizens, the Dominican Republic appears to not support the Haitian people in their time of crisis, which has awakened age-old stories of racism stemming from Dominican/Haitian relations.

The nominees are secured by the success of his long-running No. 1 album Un Verano Sin Ti. The Latin Grammys are scheduled for Nov. 17 at Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Following Bad Bunny is Edgar Barrera, who secured nine nominations, and Camilo, who earned six nominations.

The Texas Governor Greg Abbott is still making headlines. 

A second busload of migrants sent from Texas arrived outside the home of Vice President Kamala Harris over the weekend.  The latest bus is part of Governor Greg Abbott’s ongoing policy of sending migrants from Texas to underscore the Biden administration’s open-border policies.

 Harris recently appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and claimed the border is secure, leading Abbott to target her residence. The governors claim their states are overwhelmed and President Biden is ignoring the crisis.

The bus arrived before dawn on Saturday at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. Currently,  two busloads of illegal immigrants from Texas have reportedly been dropped off near the home of Vice President Kamala Harris.  

After 50 Venezuelan migrants were also flown to Martha’s Vineyard last week without notice. Florida Republican Governor Ron Desantis, admits he chartered two private planes to take the migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. 

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accused Abbott and DeSantis of using human beings as political pawns for photo-ops.  She called the moves dangerous political stunts.  Jean-Pierre added — “Stunts aren’t solutions.”  She said Republicans should work with Democrats on comprehensive immigration reforms. 

Civil rights attorneys are calling for state and federal investigations after the Republican Governor’s reckless tactics last week. The group Lawyers for Civil Rights has expressed concern that the migrants were persuaded to board airplanes and cross state lines under false pretenses.

The award recognizes the Puerto Rican artist, actor, and entrepreneur for his work that transcends musical genres and languages. 

The Boston native has a career spanning more than three decades in urban music. Born Nick Rivera Caminero, Jam is regarded as one of the pioneers of reggaetón and has become one of the most sought after promoters of the genre.

 41-year-old Jam is also performing at the Miami awards show which is taking place on September 29. 

The award show will be broadcast live on Telemundo starting at 7 p.m. Easter Time.

Lizzo and Jack Harlow are the latest round of global superstar performers that will take the stage at MTV’s 2022 VMAs. The show will air live from Prudential Center on Sunday, August 28, at 8 pm ET/PT.

Global superstar Jack Harlow returns to the MTV stage for his first solo performance after last year’s epic “VMAs” debut collaboration of the mega-hit “INDUSTRY BABY” with Lil Nas X. Harlow hopes to win his first Moon Person after receiving a tie for the most nominations (7) this year, including two of the night’s top prizes, “Video of the Year” and “Artist of the Year.” The 10x nominee received nominations for “PUSH New Artist” and “Song of the Summer” in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Lizzo, multi-hyphenate diva, is scheduled for another huge MTV moment with a performance of “2 Be Loved” from her critically praised new album Special, following a show-stopping debut with a massive mashup of “Good As Hell” and “Truth Hurts” in 2019. In addition to being a nominee for 11x, the artist and song of the year categories are up for grabs this year.

Those two stars join J Balvin, who is ready to take the 2022 MTV VMA stage. MTV announced the Colombian superstar will make a return to the stage with the TV/world premiere of “Nivel de Perreo,” with Ryan Castro.

The first time Balvin touched the stage was for the 2019 performance of “Que Pretenders” with Bad Bunny in 2019.

The five-time winner and 13-time nominee for “Best Latin” (for “In Da Getto” with Skrillex) is also vying for his sixth Moon Person, which would make him the most decorated Latin artist in “VMAs” history.

Additional performers include Anitta, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At The Disco, BLACKPINK, and Maneskin.

This year’s nominations are led by Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X with seven each, followed closely by Doja Cat and Harry Styles with six apiece, and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd (5 each).

The 2022 “VMAs” will celebrate the biggest names in music on August 28th, 8PM ET/PT, LIVE from New Jersey’s iconic Prudential Center and air across MTV’s worldwide footprint of linear and digital platforms in 170+ countries, reaching 422 million households in nearly 30 different languages.

Through Friday, August 19, 2022, fans can cast their votes online at vote.mtv.com for their favorites in 22 gender-neutral categories, including “Video of the Year,” “Artist of the Year,” “Best Collaboration,” and two brand-new ones, “Best Longform Video” and “Best Metaverse Performance.”

The fourteenth week at No. 1 for Bad Bunny‘s Un Verano Sin Ti album means a No. 2 debut for YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s The Last Slimeto.

The Louisiana-bred rapper arrives in second place despite posting an impressive 108,400 album-equivalent units in the first week. The album collected 161 million on-demand streams in the first week of release.

NBA YoungBoy is now the only artist to place three top ten projects on the chart this year. Earlier this year, YoungBoy dropped the collaborative album Better Than You with DaBaby and the solo Colors in February.

Bunny’s album returns to the top spot behind with 108,800 album-equivalent units, eclipsing YounBoy by just 400 units.

At No. 3, Beyoncé’s latest, Renaissance, delivers another 89,000 album equivalent units.

Back in March, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper shared details about the BTS collaboration. “The BTS experience you keep talking about. I’m going to let them tell you about it. It’s official like a referee with a whistle. I love that entertainment world. It’s good music. It’s a vibe. I make good music. They make good music. And we ended up doing this. This is what it’s always about, bringing our worlds together,” Snoop revealed.

 “Bad Decision” is the first single off Blanco’s upcoming third album and features the legendary west coast rapper alongside BTS vocalists Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.  The song is scheduled to drop August 5.

PETA named the Most Beautiful Vegan Celebrities of 2022, and this year’s winners are Latin singer Anitta and  Lenny Kravitz. 

Brazilian superstar Anitta, who went vegan after watching the documentary Cowspiracy, is so committed to promoting plant-powered meals that when she’s not headlining at Coachella, she’s the face of an international vegan meat brand based in her home country. 

As she says, “Who has tasted plant meat? It’s like me: innovative, super hot, and good for the environment!”

“With more than 65 million followers between them, Kravitz and Anitta are global superstars who are inspiring countless people to go their way and let love rule by keeping animals off their plates,” says PETA Senior Vice President of Communications Lisa Lange. 

Kravitz, who maintains lush gardens full of healthy fruits and vegetables at his homes in Brazil and the Bahamas, credits vegan eating with helping him maintain his rock-star physique—as the “Fly Away” singer puts it, going vegan is “the right thing for yourself and for the planet and animals.”

 Everyone who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year; reduces their risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint. 

According to the United Nations, a global shift toward vegan meals is necessary to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe.

The FLOTUS attempt to compliment Latinos left a bad taste in a lot of mouths on Monday.

The First Lady  was speaking in San Antonio, Texas at the annual conference of UnidosUS.  As she attempted to praise the advocacy organization’s longtime leader, Raul Yzaguirre, Biden said the Latino community is “as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio.” 

Her poor choice and use of an analogy did not go over well in the Latin community. The FLOTUS also made a stir  for her mispronunciation of “bodegas” in the same speech.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists said in a statement that Biden and her speech writers ought to “better understand the complexities of our people” who should not be reduced to stereotypes.

“NAHJ encourages @FLOTUS & her communications team to take time to better understand the complexities of our people & communities. We are not tacos,” NAHJ tweeted.

“Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by various diasporas, cultures & food traditions. 

Do not reduce us to stereotypes.”

Nike is working with a diverse group of league, retail, and community partners during MLB All-Star week to improve the equity, accessibility, and enjoyment of diamond sports for Black and Latina females and all young people in LA.

A Project Play report from the Aspen Institute found that since 2020, girls’ softball participation has decreased by more than 15% due to pandemic-related limitations, an absence of entry-level coaches, and referee shortages. By offering Nike Diamond Community Camps, Retail Experiences, and Coaching Clinics throughout the city and continuing to invest in the Jackie Robinson Foundation and Play Equity Fund, Nike will give opportunities across softball and baseball at all skill levels.

Nike will hold a coaching clinic in collaboration with the LA Dodgers Foundation to increase the caliber and number of female coaches, giving young women robust and supportive role models for life outside of sports.

The Nike women’s athlete family will join us in LA to motivate the upcoming wave of elite athletes. They’ll participate in three Nike Diamond Pop-Up Community Camps held at the LA Dodgers’ Dreamfields and take on a neighborhood partner at a softball match presented by UNDFTD.

A kid-inspired home run derby will be held at the Nike East Los Community Store as part of the Midsummer Classic festivities, which will be made more accessible to young people in neighborhoods throughout LA thanks to Nike’s network of retail partners.

These initiatives come after LA Made to Play Neighborhoods was introduced in May. Nike is contributing $1.3 million over three years through the Play Equality Fund (PEF) to support 13 neighborhood organizations and close the pay equity gap for Black and Latina girls in Boyle Heights and Watts.

Additionally, Nike is unveiling the 2022 MLB All-Star Game Jerseys and Lunar Cortez BSBL, which both pay homage to the city of Angels, and celebrating the legacy of Dodger great and LA native Jackie Robinson through the continued support of the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the official release of the Nike Dunk Low (Jackie Robinson).

The Nike Dunk Low (Jackie Robinson) will go on sale on July 19 at Nike SNKRS, UNDFTD, and a few other retailers as part of Nike’s ongoing commemoration of Jackie Robinson, the MLB All-Star Game, and the spirit of breaking down barriers. Robinson’s well-known phrase from 1947, printed all over the design, illustrates his philosophy, which encouraged people worldwide to push the boundaries of their own lives. His original uniform’s worn-in color scheme inspired the design’s colors. The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) has long received funding from Nike, Inc., contributing around $3 million in the last five years ($1 million in FY22) to support the JRF’s scholars, mentorship, and leadership development program and museum.

JRF Scholars benefit from a program that offers career counseling, internship, and permanent job placement, among others, in addition to receiving college subsidies over four years. His ground-breaking accomplishments will be remembered for the upcoming generation of athletes at the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York City.

Bad Bunny is back on top of Billboard. The Latin superstar and his album Un Verano Sin Ti lands on top of the chart for a third non-consecutive week. The achievement comes in week 8 of the album.

This week, Un Verano Sin Ti earned 115,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. The album debuted at No. 1 on the May 21 charge and ascended to the top spot again on June 18.

Each of Un Verano Sin Ti’s first eight weeks on the list saw earnings of over 100,000. The last book to achieve this did it almost six years ago when Drake’s Views‘ first 10 weeks all saw sales of over 100,000 units.

Trailing Bad Bunny is Luke Combs as his Growin’ Up album came in at No. 2. Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind is at No. 3 with 73,000 album-equivalent album units earned. Making his 12th top 10 album debut, Chris Brown’s Breezy arrives at No. 4 with 72,000 equivalent album units. There were 87.36 million on-demand official streams of the album’s 24 tracks. Rounding out the Top 5 is Lil Durk’s 7220, which is powered to the spot by the deluxe edition.

Bad Bunny is set to take over Labor Day Weekend at Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the Made in America Festival.

Latin Pop star Olivia Rodrigo blasted the Supreme Court at her festival set in England this weekend.

After the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday, Rodrigo told the crowd that she was devastated, and the justices couldn’t care less about women or freedom.

After a Sunday runoff election, Francia Márquez will become the first Black vice president of Colombia. Márquez ran alongside Gustavo Petro.

According to Axios, the nation has a large Afro Colombian population, which has been marginalized by decades-old conflict across the country. In their history, Afro Colombians have been “are overrepresented in the numbers of forcibly displaced people and victims of violence.” One in 10 Colombians identify as Black, but misrepresentation could have hindered that number due to a census undercount. In addition, discrimination has discouraged citizens from identifying as Black.

Márquez is a lawyer and activity. In her career, she has been awarded the Goldman Prize for her work in environmentalism. Márquez has risen to the role of vice-president, overcoming local poverty, as opposed to other presidents who received education in other locations.

Márquez stated she ran for office “because our governments have turned their backs on the people, and on justice and on peace.”

Kickin’ It, which debuted in June, showcases an MLB player talking about their in-game footwear, favorite shoes as a kid, and what they’d like to wear in the future. Some of the notable releases included St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado, Chicago Cubs’ Wilson Contreras, and Milwaukee Brewers’ Christian Yelich.

In this episode, Acua Jr. highlights the sneaker he chose for the segment:

 “These are the shoes I designed for home club. Then I put the yellow, blue, and red. The yellow is more noticeable because I have always liked to stick out. It also combines and makes reference to the flag of Venezuela. Here are the stars of Venezuela.
