NAV has announced his Never Sleep ’23 Tour, which will kick off on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at the Fillmore in Minneapolis, MN, with stops in Chicago, IL, New York, NY, Vancouver, BC, Denver, CO, and more before concluding on Tuesday, April 11th in his hometown of Toronto, ON with a special headline performance at Scotiabank Arena featuring Bryson Tiller. NAV has revealed a new album with the title Demons Protected By Angels and pointed to the date of July 29th for something to occur a few days earlier. After his Emergency Tsunami mixtape, which was entirely produced by longtime friend and “Turks” producer Wheezy, NAV hasn’t released anything for almost two years.

Nav has over 9 billion streams worldwide, 4 Billboard Top 10s, and 11 Hot 100 hits to his credit. With Good Intentions launching at number one on the Billboard Chart (2020) and Bad Habits debuting at number one just one year earlier, NAV has two albums that have reached the top of the charts. Three songs received RIAA-Platinum certifications this year alone: “Up,” “Tap” (with Meek Mill), and “Tap” (2X Platinum).

Nowadays being a rapper requires you to flex your bank account and extravagant spending. While these flexes typically include jewelry, cars, or houses Gunna decided to let us know we cannot relate to his eating habits. On Sunday, November 14th, Gunna posted an Instagram story a photo of his bill at Little Alley Steak House in Atlanta, where he and his crew racked up a $17,000 charge. He captioned the post: “This how much it cost to eat with us.”

Even though the image is blurry and difficult to read, it appears that their order included several bottles of Don Julio tequila, margaritas, drinks like Sprite and cranberry juice, macaroni and cheese, crab legs, and much more.

Around $4,000 of the bill resulted from service charges and tax, but still easily racked up to $10,000 before the extra charges. This is not the first time Gunna bragged about his lavish lifestyle, as he gifted frequent collaborator Nav with a giant iced-out ring for his 32nd birthday on November 3rd.

Gunna has been using his abundant income to enjoy the finer things in life, he also believes in giving back and providing for his community. In September, he paid for and installed a clothing and grocery store in his old middle school in the Atlanta area to celebrate Gunna Day. The items in the store will be free for the students and their parents at the school.

Jadakiss broke the internet after The Lox defeated Dipset in the Verzuz battle, but NAV must’ve seen the future because before the hoorah, the Canadian rapper recruited the Yonkers lyricist to be featured on his up-and-coming album.

NAV took it to Twitter to not only congratulate Jada, but he also broke some news by letting fans know that Jadakiss will be on his album. In fact, they collaborated two weeks ago. He said, “Thats crazy I put @Therealkiss on my album two weeks ago..congrats on last night.”

I know people are hype about Kanye and DONDA, but in the midst of Yeezy season, Jadakiss came through with a tropical storm. Grande had some stiff competition from Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, which continues to have an impressive posthumous run on the charts. This week the debut brought in 57,000 units.

No. 3 on the charts belongs to The Kid Laroi with 52,000 units for his F*ck Love album and King Von takes a leap into the Top 5 with his debut album Welcome to O’Block.

When Emergency Tsunami transitions from the “Breaking News Intro” into the triumphant “Friends & Family,” the Wheezy-produced effort shows promise–but only for so long.

The year has been a busy one for NAV with the XO signee unleashing the full-length Good Intentions album this year only to follow it up with a deluxe double album in tow. So when listeners turn on the surprise Emergency Tsunami drop, it appears to be a powerful closure to the year’s catalog for the Canadian artist, but it quickly falls flat.

Pushing past “Friends & Family” and the Gunna-assisted “Young Weezy” opens up a familiar tracklist of the same formula that NAV has stuck to for years now. While his consistency is commendable, the lack of variety leaves room for uninspired reoccurrences. While he finds his stride on cuts like “Nasty” and “Vetement Socks,” it loses luster when the same identity permeates throughout the remaining tracklist. The lyrical content doesn’t veer much from the same boasts of suites in Beverly Hills and flat memories of the road to luxury while his familiar cadence finds no variation.

What Emergency Tsunami successfully does, however, is to place the production of Wheezy front and center. It’s in this moment that the southern beatmaker’s signature truly unfolds. Even without a tag, the author is clear. Wheezy supplies the force that powers much of Emergency Tsunami.

All the while, NAV should be credited with appropriately selecting the producer who best frames his delivery. The same can be said of his choice of collaborators with Atlanta’s stamp planted firmly on Tsunami. Gunna, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Lil Keed, and SahBabii all shine in their performances and the influence is clear with their own lingo leaking into NAV’s own repertoire.

“My baby don’t play, Chanaynay her shades,” he raps on “Vetement Socks.”

The South’s influence on the 31-year-old’s career is obvious, and in Emergency Tsunami he plays proper homage, doubling down with a Future-assisted “Stella McCartney” on the effort’s deluxe outing.

For fans who are enthusiastic about the same sounds that bought them into NAV’s orbit in the first place, Emergency Tsunami is a gem, but for those of us hoping to see the Toronto-bred rapper push himself past established plateaus, the wave misses the mark.

The XO/Republic artist created the forthcoming mixtape in association with his longtime collaborator and “Turks” producer Wheezy, making the close of a successful year for the start.

Back in May, Nav released his Good Intentions album, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200, going back to back with chart-toppers. His first was Bad Habits, which took over number one in 2019.

Travis Scott tapped into hosting .WAV Radio show on Apple Music on Monday. While the ASTROWORLD superstar premiered some new tracks of his own, he dropped new music from some of Hip-Hop’s most coveted rappers as well. As you can expect, those premieres sent social media into a frenzy.

The Houston rapper hosted the .WAV Radio show with a close friend and frequent collaborator, Chase B. Travis premiered two new Big Sean tracks. The songs are entitled “Lithuania” and “Zen.” In addition, the Grammy-nominated rapper premiered a new collaboration with Young Thug, entitled “White Tee.” Chase B not only co-hosted the .WAV Radio episode, but premiered some new music of his own, including the Don Toliver-assisted “Cafeteria,” featuring Gunna. The two also announced their upcoming collaborative album, ESCAPISM. While fans got a chance to preview the vibe of the album, there was no announcement for a set date.

The Jackboys did not stop there. With Jack Harlow’s growing success, his newest remix of “What’s Poppin” features Justin Bieber. They premiered a new Swae Lee track entitled, “Scroote, a YBN Cordae track entitled “Parables,” and Nav’s “Pickney.”

“Yosemite” is the most recent collab between La Flame and Nav. Belly teams up with NAV for a new track titled “Maintain.” The Canadian pair are two of the latest buzz-worthy artists rising from Canada. With Belly being signed to Roc Nation and NAV being XO’s protégé, the song is a natural outcome of the two’s harmonic musical chemistry on a track. If I had to guess, we could be hearing more from the duo in the future.

The song “Maintain” is a hypnotic and laid-back but full-body song which floats over a mid-tempo beat. Belly kicks off the hook by structuring it around “we just tryna maintain” setting the tone for NAV to do what he does best and carries out his signature sound. The track follows Belly’s other recent team-up “4 Days” with YG.

XO’s newcomer Nav has been making noise for a minute now. His rise to stardom has been no mystery every since he announced his signing with The Weeknd‘s XO label. Then soon following it up with “Some Way” featuring his label boss. Not to forget his self-titled project NAV. The 11 tracks long project included his standout tracks like “Myself”, “Up”, “Good For It”, and of course “Some Way”.

The video is made up of clips which were filmed during his appearances at The Weeknd’s latest tour, and various after-parties. The video captures the celebratory vibe with an ode of seductive allures that come with stardom and “Good For It” is the perfect song because it showcases emotions of coming up. There are also very subtle cameos from Drake, The Weeknd and his XO crew.

As the year winds down, the real hustlers already know to plan their moves for 2017.

Straight from the producer himself, Metro Boomin took to Twitter to announce what he has been working on: a collab album with Toronto producer, Nav. The album is expected to be released sometime next year. The joint effort reinforces the current growing relationship between Toronto and Atlanta talent.
