A 12-year-old Michigan boy was found after an 11 day search
In a live interview, Charles Bothuell IV learned that his 12-year-old son, Charlie Bothuell was found hidden and safe in the basement of their home. A speechless Bothuell grabbed at his chest in complete bewilderment, visibly upset and desperately trying to catch his breathe once HLN’s Nancy Grace broke the bizarre news.
“I checked my basement,” Bothuell said. “The FBI checked my basement. The police checked my basement. My wife checked my basement. I’ve been down there several times. We’ve all been checking.”
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the investigators had searched the home four times, one time with a cadaver dog however, Investigators weren’t certain if Charlie was there during those searches. Charlie who was found barricaded behind boxes and a large five-gallon drum was overjoyed to see the officers and was taken to receive medical treatment.
“I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” Craig told CNN affiliate WXYZ. “We found him barricaded in the basement, behind boxes and a large five-gallon drum. There’s no way he could have erected this makeshift area of concealment.”
In a news conference on Wednesday, Criag was asked if an adult was responsible for hiding the boy. Craig admitted that the police weren’t ruling the idea out saying it was hard to believe that someone didn’t know Charlie was there.
Charlie disappeared on the night of June 14 when he walked out of his house. His father said Charlie hadn’t done his chores and his mother had not reprimanded him for not doing so. Charles received a call around 9:45 that night saying that Charlie was gone; the search began immediately. Following the HLN interview Charlie told reporters of his utter shock and his anger toward reporters who questioned if he did in fact know where his son was hiding.
“For anybody to imply that I somehow knew my son was in the basement is absurd and wrong. I love my son. I’m glad that he’s home,” Bothuell said. “I thought my son was dead,” he said
