Even though April Fools Day was over a week ago, the jokes apparently have not stopped for Elon Musk. Over the weekend, the eccentric Twitter CEO apparently defaced…his own business’s sign.

For reasons completely unclear, Musk had covered up the “w” on the company’s sign outside of its headquarters in San Francisco. While some assumed that it was a routine maintenance or repair issue, it appeared that Musk had done it….just because.

However, while some fans thought that the stunt was funny, the building’s landlord was apparently not having it, stating that the sign could not be altered from its previously-approved design.

Apparently Musk (or one of his staff) may have found a loophole in the contract that allowed them to paint the “w” the background color of the sign (white). While some people were unsure whether the painting was the work of vandalism, Musk proudly took credit on Sunday on (where else?) Twitter, showing off the new sign.

No word if the social media platform will officially be changing its name any time soon.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again? That seems to be the mantra of Billy McFarland, the organizer of the infamous Fyre Fest music festival that spiraled into chaos and disaster, leaving thousands stranded in the Bahamas for a concert event that never materialized.

However, almost exactly six years to the date that the original Fyre Fest spiraled into disaster, McFarland seems to be ready to give it another go, tweeting his plans for Fyre Fest II and inviting fans to tell him why they should be invited.

Naturally, the responses were every bit as hilarious as expected with some respondents volunteering to bring food and water with others offering their therapy or DJ-ing services. One user gave the response: “Because I’m forklift certified.”

The first Fyre Fest, which was set to happen over two weekends (April 28–30 and May 5–7, 2017) had teased major headliners such as Ja Rule, Blink 182, and Lil Yachty with A-list celebrities such as Kendall Jenner promoting the event on their social media. However, no performances took place and McFarland ended up pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud charges and serving just over four years of his original six year prison sentence.

While McFarland may be free and planning a comeback event, one thing is likely certain- the event will not be held in the Bahamas again. Aviation Chester Cooper, Bahamas Minister of Tourism, said that the Bahamas will not endorse or approve any event in associated with McFarland, stating that he “is considered to be a fugitive.”

Baby Grizzley, the younger brother of rapper Tee Grizzley, will spend the next four years and nine months behind bars after being sentenced for illegal gun possession by a federal judge.

Grizzley, whose real name is Marcellus Wallace, was convicted in 2020 on federal weapons charges connected to his arrest. Wallace was pulled over, and police found four illegal weapons in the vehicle. Federal agents say Wallace attempted to bribe his driver to take the charges for the guns with an offer of $20,000 cash from the $300,000 record deal he’d just received from the label.

His brother Tee Grizzley has yet to comment on his brother’s federal sentence.

Former President Donald Trump’s recent 34-count indictment has stirred a range of public opinion with everyone from politicians to celebrities to ordinary people chiming in. However, Yusef Salaam, one of the exonerated “Central Park Five,” has a unique perspective on the situation, simply calling it “karma.”

Salaam tweeted the following after news of the indictment broke:

For those who may not remember, in 1989, Trump, who was then a prominent New York City businessman, took out several full-page newspaper advertisements calling for New York City politicians to reinstate the death penalty following the brutal rape and attack of a female jogger in New York City. Five youth, Salaam, Korey Wise, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, and Kevin Richardson, were wrongfully imprisoned for 7-13 years until the attacker was caught. They had been coerced into giving false confessions and received substantial settlements. All are involved in criminal justice activism efforts now. Trump never formally apologized to the five, especially since he took out the ads before their trials began.

Salaam recently announced his candidacy for New York City Council.

Rapper 6ix9ine is finally addressing his March attack at a Florida gym, just days after his attackers were arrested, calling the attack “cowardly,” while sharing a clip of the attack on his Instagram.

6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, shared a clip on Instagram of the attack, which occured in the bathroom of a West Palm Beach LA Fitness. He wrote the following caption:

“First time addressing the situation. For 2 years I been walking around with no security. Not saying I promote that BUT now you see I really never hid from anything. If you ever crossed my path or ever came to my house (you girls know who you are) ya can tell the world “Danny drives his own cars and be solo” You know how many of you people seen me in real life by myself in gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. Anyway what happen here was nothing but cowardly. I’m not mad this happened. In the street there’s no rules so I cant say they were wrong. Obviously it wasn’t fair but again the streets has no rules. Just imagine having nothing to do to with a situation and feel obligated to make it your business. (Very weird) I’m happy to be here still. And I want to say I love my fans. Thank you.
P.S : I never knew we respected jumping people. When did that ever become a W???”

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, three individuals have been arrested in conjunction with the attack: Rafael Medina Jr., 43, Octavious Medina, 23, and Anthony Maldonado, 25. No information is available other than that the three were being held in the Palm Beach County Jail and had their initial appearance on March 31.

T-Boz went on to deliver her seal of approval of Chilli’s main man and even expressed hope that her close friend and “sister” will get married one day in the future.

“Matthew’s a special one,” she explained. “I know my sister so he’s special. Trust! Matthew, you better know.”

Earlier this month, the former Boy Meets World actor confirmed he has connected with Chilli’s 25-year-old son Tron, who she shares with ex Dallas Austin. When asked about having his own children one day, Matthew was optimistic.

Another Real Housewife of Atlanta shocked us with news of separation. Eva Marcille has filed for divorce from her husband, Michael Sterling, after five years of marriage. The couple and their adorable family wowed audiences on Bravo’s hit series when Eva’s husband agreed to adopt her child from a previous relationship.

According to the court documents filed on March 23, 2023, in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Eva cited the marriage as being “irretrievably broken.” She declared that there was no possibility of reconciliation.

During their marriage, they welcomed two children together —Michael Todd Sterling Jr. and Maverick.

Michael also serves as a father to Eva’s daughter, Marley, from a previous relationship.

Neither Eva nor Michael has commented publicly on their split.

A little bit of Snoop Dogg may have cost a Mississippi news anchor her job. During a morning broadcast, WLBT journalist and meteorologist Barbie Bassett has not been on the air, and her bio has been removed from the company website. The last time she was on the air, she said, “Fo shizzle, my nizzle,” after a mention of Snoop Dogg.

According to the Clarion Ledger, Bassett has been removed from her morning spot due to “racially insensitive comments.” Further details on her removal were not disclosed, but WLBT Vice President and General Manager Ted Fortenberry said, “As I am sure you can understand, WLBT is unable to comment on personnel matters.”

For Bassett, she may have had a slap on the wrist, but this wasn’t her first time dealing with offensive or insensitive statements. This past October, she was criticized for these statements and offered an apology.

Last year a woman claiming to be Kim Porter’s niece filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Sean’ Diddy’ Combs, Tri Star Sports, and others. The woman claims she became a full-time nanny to Diddy’s twins after Kim passed away in November 2018. Jane Roe says she was fired 2 years later when she requested maternity leave. Roe claims she was told through Diddy’s reps she was canned because she was pregnant and unmarried — which “purportedly set a bad example” for his daughters.

Now Diddy wants his accuser’s name to be made public…

Diddy rushed back to court after his ex-nanny pleaded for her name to remain anonymous in their bitter court battle, RadarOnline.com has learned.

According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, the music mogul has objected to his ex-employee’s request to continue using Jane Roe as a pseudonym in the case.

Diddy and Roe have been going back and forth over her being allowed to remain anonymous for weeks.

Recently, Roe asked the court to deny Diddy’s request she reveals her identity. She said the mogul’s reason for wanting her name is to “harass her and invite societal and professional harm to her and her family.

Roe said she is, “Desperate to preserve the privacy she had left, terrified of possible physical harm to her and her minor children, and fearful of further victim shaming, blaming, and retaliation.”

Now, Diddy has filed documents opposing Roe’s motion. He said that Roe has failed to provide evidence that the media will “invade” her privacy or that of her children.

A recent case-in-point is NBA player Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies. The point-guard superstar is currently suspended indefinitely and his future in the league overall is in jeopardy. This all stems from multiple gun incidents, including the recent flashing of a firearm in a Denver nightclub while on Instagram live. The NBA is currently investigating the situation more, as the looming question is if Morant personally brought the weapon on the team plane. That verdict will ultimately determine his fate and repercussions.
Media from both sports and music have been covering the hot topic, feeling there’s no reason for the multi-million dollar basketball player to portray such a lifestyle. Hence, “ballers want to be rappers, and rappers want to be ballers.”

Fans won’t have any problem remembering Avril Lavigne‘s name thanks to a flashy necklace purchased by her (rumored) boyfriend, Tyga, that is said to be valued at about $80,000.

Avril was seen wearing the chain last week in Los Angeles and also posted pictures wearing it on social media. The chain prominently features her name, the letter “A” over pink hearts, skulls and crossbones with ribbons, and the letters MFP on the back. The piece is reportedly composed of 50 carats of white diamonds, black diamonds, and pink sapphires.

The piece was made by celebrity jeweler Eric Mavani of Mavani & Co Jewelry in New York City, who confirmed the piece’s approximate value. Mavani also shared an up close and personal view of the necklace on his Instagram.

Rumors of a romance between the two began last month following Lavigne’s ended engagement to Mod Sun. The two have been spotted together around Los Angeles as well as at Paris Fashion week.

Blac Chyna has said “enough is enough.” And for once, she isn’t talking about drama. Instead, the artist, whose real name is Angela White, took yet another step in returning to her “natural” form this week when she got her face fillers dissolved on Instagram.

Explaining that she was tired of how she looked “as Blac Chyna” and “wanted to return to Angela” by getting her facial fillers dissolved, she said, “I’m tired of the look and it’s just not flattering. It’s just not what I look like — it like totally changed my face and I’m ready to get back to Angela.”

The video showed a medical professional injecting various spots of White’s face and lips with a syringe and catheter that contained an acid that will dissolve the filler within a few days. A few times, she appears to flinch as the medical professional explains that it might “pinch” or “sting.”

Earlier this week, she shared a video in which she explained that she got her breasts and buttocks surgically reduced, captioning it with:

“I want you all to be apart of my life changing journey.  I Reduced my breast and Gluteus maximus. ‘You all have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that.’ ~ Angela White.”

According to Healthline, “only hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, like Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero, can be dissolved. HA is a sugar naturally found in your body, mainly in your connective tissues. Mainly, HA works to keep your skin hydrated, which contributes to plumpness. The HA in fillers is a synthetic, or lab-made version. Fillers degrade over time, which is why you need to get follow-up injections to maintain their look.

The medical professional explained that White might experience some swelling over the next few days, but it would be temporary. No doubt, fans will eagerly be awaiting to see her new, more natural, look in the coming days.

According to news reports, Houston rapper OMB Bloodbath has been indicted on RICO charges for allegedly aiding a violent gang in a murder.

OMB Bloodbath, whose real name is Alexandra Nicks, is allegedly part of the 100% Third Ward gang and is recognized as the gang’s leader. In documents obtained by AllHipHop, Nicks and other members of the 103 gang murdered a man named Sam Johnson in October 2017, according to claims from investigators.

Johnson was found lying in front of a Houston home, while police found the shells casings from the shooting on a nearby street. Nicks allegedly orchestrated numerous violent crimes with 103 gang members, and investigators acquired calls between a known 103 gang leader locked up in Harris County Jail and OMB Bloodbath. 

One of the calls found Nicks and the 103 leader speaking about her record deal and said she would pay for shooters for a drive-by. OMB Bloodbath was indicted on a RICO charge for aiding and abetting the murder of Johnson, as well as other crimes related to the 100% Third Ward crew.

The iconic red dress was first worn by Whitney Houston in 1996. On Jimmy Fallon, Washington explained how the dress had been archived by its original designer, Marc Bouwer, and it had not been worn in decades. Washington had apparently had her eye on it for awhile and had previously discussed the dress with her stylist, but had to wait for the right moment to honor [Houston].

She described the halter-style dress as “really special” and explaining that “when you get an award for excellence in the arts, you’ve gotta go to Black excellence.”

Washington also posted a short video on Instagram in which she asked “What’s cooler than wearing Whitney Houston’s dress?” before following it up with her singing the late songstress’s iconic “nothing” while twirling around and showing it off.

The fifth American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Honors ceremony, which took place in West Hollywood on March 5, recognizes achievements of film actors of African descent and honors films that stand out in their portrayal of Black experience. Washington was honored alongside Courtney B. Vance, Janelle Monáe, Macro’s Charles D. King, filmmaker Kasi Lemmons, the cast of “Eve’s Bayou,” and more.

Nicki Minaj believes that female rappers are being paid by labels and management companies to diss her for clout.

While speaking with Rah Ali during a Stationhead listening event for her single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” Nicki voiced her thoughts on the state of hip-hop and the “microwaveability” of today’s artists.

“As you rap and you write, you get better. And you get better every day,” said Nicki. “But I think the thing is now, because of the…microwaveability of TikTok artists getting deals and Instagram people getting likes or Twitter people…girls’ labels and management companies paying for viral tweets and paying for Nicki diss tweets and all that.”

Nicki, who is launching her own label, believes that the art of lyricism is lost and that it’s unfair to compare her to others who don’t write their own rhymes.

“It’s kind of like, if I don’t remind them that we’re actually here to rap, who will?” she continued. “And then, on top of that, don’t ever put me in the same muthafu**in’ sentence. Don’t use my name for any examples. You have to write your verses, period. And I say that with love because I think that now maybe people are feeling pressure of having to, I don’t know, do things so fast.”

It’s unclear if Nicki was referring to anyone in particular. She and Latto got into a heated exchange on Twitter last year following the Grammys’ controversial decision to remove “Super Freaky Girl” from the rap category.

“‘Red Ruby,’ I dropped it as a itty-bitty just something,” she said. “‘Cause I know it’s gon’ go off on tour, it’s gon’ go off on y’all. It’s just rapping. But the album, obviously, I have to drop my official single for the album. ‘Red Ruby’s’ not the official single for the album.”

Half Haitian and Ivorian, Yelly was born and raised in Harlem by two hard working immigrant parents. The chocolate beauty also attends the Fashion Institute of Technology full time while pursuing her modeling career for over 7 years.

Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage special featured a portion of jokes targeting Will Smith. One of which compared Smith to Death Row Records frontman Suge Knight, dubbing the Oscar-winning actor “Suge Smith.”

Speaking on TMZ, Suge’s son, Suge J. Knight, thinks it’s cool to hear his dad’s name remains in popular culture.

“We all know Suge Knight as that guy who’s all about that action. Whatever he does, he going to do that. It’s funny to see that Suge has been in jail for a minute but he still has this legendary status. It’s just dope.”

Knight’s son stated his dad would enjoy the joke but recognize they aren’t like him. Ultimately, he overall wasn’t thrilled by the special. You can hear it from him below.

Melle Mel has been firing off his opinions on a run of rappers. The legend said Lil Wayne shouldn’t be in consideration for the best rapper, Eminem only gets love because he’s white, and Kendrick Lamar’s influence is overrated.

Stepping into the online discourse is another legend, Chuck D, who compares Mel to Wilt Chamberlain and understands his perspective.

“Understand Melle Mel was so dominant over the rest of the pack in the first 5 years of records its hard to comprehend for born after MC folk,” he wrote. “Its why i call him Wilt Chamberlain and Wilt had a crate of critiques for the rappers after him including ME. Just Let Mel be Wilt lol.”

Interacting with Dante Ross, Chuck D responded to the Em criticism, calling both he and Black Thought a cyborg.

Nicki Minaj has always been known for her diversity, whether it’s her ever-changing looks and persona or her varied business ventures. So it shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise that the multiple Grammy nominee and chart-topping artist is starting her own record label.

On Friday, Minaj made her return to music after a brief hiatus with her new single, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” She also took to her Queen Radio show to announce her own record label of her own, making her the first major female artist to do so.

While she has not yet announced the name, she has introduced some of the artists that she has signed. So far, her roster includes artists Nana Fofie, Tate Kobang, Rico Danna and London Hill.

She explained that her label won’t be limited to just rap, saying “don’t think my label is just rap, or Black, or anything…we got some other genres of music.”

She went on to credit Lil’ Wayne for much of her inspiration and guidance in starting a record label, explaining how he heavily promoted his artists and she hopes to do the same, saying ‘when I get behind an artist, y’all know how I do s— for people that’s not even signed to me. Imagine what I’ma do for the ones that’s signed.”

While her full staff has not been announced, it has been reported that Patty Duke, who has a longtime relationship with Minaj, will serve in an A&R role at the new label.

The fictional Adonis Creed may have won record-breaking heavyweight titles, but the real Michael B. Jordan had his own record-breaking weekend with “Creed III” (which he both directed and starred in) breaking a box office record for highest-grossing opening weekend.

The film reportedly brought in $58 million in the United States during its opening weekend (bringing in $22 million on Friday alone), taking the title from the former domestic record holder, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” Internationally, “Creed III” made $41.8 million its opening weekend, bringing its global total revenue to $100.4 million. (For reference, the film cost $75 million to make.)

Experts state that the reason for the record can be attributed to two things: the popularity of the film with a large audience and increased ticket prices.

Yahoo Entertainment notes that “Creed III” brought our a very diverse audience, as 23% were white, 28% were Latino, 36% were Black and 13% were Asian. They also note that “Creed III” also benefitted from pricier Imax tickets (a huge 38% of business came from premium large format screens). Additionally, movie ticket prices, like many other things, have increased due to inflation over the past few years.

In 2015, “Creed I” brought in $29.6 million its opening weekend while the 2018 sequel, “Creed II,” opened to $35.5 million.

De La Soul, a legendary hip-hop group, today announced that their complete back catalog is now, for the first time, accessible on all major streaming services and digital shops. The group’s classic albums, including 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul Is Dead, and Buhloone Mindstate, are now readily available to listeners.

Also, the band’s website, wearedelasoul.com, offers exclusive apparel, vinyl, CDs, and cassettes that are provided by their record company, AOI, and are distributed by Chrysalis Records.

The news comes as the group is grieving the untimely loss of co-founding member Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, who passed away on Feb. 12. He left a lasting impression on the music and heritage of De La Soul, and his other co-founders Kelvin “Posdnuos” Mercer and Vincent Lamont “Maseo” Mason Jr. are appreciative of their more than 35 years of friendship.

“We are excited to finally have our full back catalog available on all streaming platforms,” said Posdnuos. “At the same time, we are deeply saddened by the loss of our brother, Dave. His unique voice and talent will be missed, but his spirit will always live on through our music.”

The popular Broccoli City Festival will return to the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds in Washington, DC, on July 15–16, 2023, according to organizers Broccoli City and partner Live Nation Urban.

Lil Uzi Vert, Jazmine Sullivan, City Girls, Mariah the Scientist, Saucy Santana, Rema, Ice Spice, Finesse 2 Tymes, Tia Corine, and OG Bobby Billions serve as the festival’s opening roster on Saturday, July 15. On July 16, a special hometown headlining performance by Brent Faiyaz, Kodak Black, Glorilla, Chloe Bailey, Asake, Coco Jones, Fat Trel, Lola Brooke, LARussell, and Tre’ Amani will continue the festivities.

This year’s festival also includes a brand-new “Battle of the Bands” installment on Saturday and Sunday featuring illustrious go-go artists like Sirius Company, Absolute Control Band, Reaction Band, Uncalled For Band, and Backyard Band.

“This year’s lineup continues our tradition of celebrating culture in the DMV, both nationally and locally. We want to continue highlighting those who continue to play a role in driving progress in Black communities,” says Brandon McEachern, co-founder of Broccoli City Festival. “Our goal is to always create a dope cultural experience and highlight a diverse group of artists who are taking Black music to new heights, and I’m proud of how it’s come together.”

There’s catfishing….and then there’s celebrity catfishing. A woman named Rachel wrote to Dr. Phil, begging her to intervene in a situation with her friend Simone, who believed that she was engaged to R&B singer Omarion.

Rachel first provided Dr. Phil with some background information about the situation. She said that Simone believed that she was talking to Omarion and that he had stated that he wanted to marry her and was planning to come visit her. However, after talking for two years, he had not come to see Simone, nor had he flown her to see him. Simone had, however, given someone that she believed to be Omarion upwards of $3,500. She also stated that Simone had never video-chatted with the “Post to Be” singer.

Dr. Phil then interviewed Simone, who said she was in contact with Omarion’s “manager,” who had asked her for money. However, Dr. Phil brought out Omarion’s real manager, Michelle Le Fleur, who stated that Omarion did not know Simone, had never asked her for money and was not in a relationship with her.

Omarion then shared a video from Omarion who addressed the issue, saying that “it’s crazy how far these people will go to manipulate my fans to think that they are actually speaking with me- from sending fake drivers licenses and passports, even Facetiming them, but claiming there was a bad connection.”

He then spoke directly to Simone, saying, “I’m sorry, Simone, I haven’t been speaking with you online and we are not in a relationship. You have not sent me any money. I want everyone to be aware that if someone is online claiming to be me and asking for money, that you are not speaking with me, I would not do that. All of my pages are marked with a blue check.”

He encouraged his fans to be careful and mindful about who they speak to online.

Dr. Phil pointed out that celebrities being impersonated is very common, with many unwitting victims believing that they are in a relationship with a celebrity, sharing stories of other fans who had thought they were in relationships with celebrities such as Post Malone, Tyler Perry, and Vin Diesel.

Friday night, the Universal Hip Hop Museum and Video Music Box brought together prominent Hip Hop heads to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop fashion.

Everyone from rapper Fat Joe, Vinnie of Naughty By Nature to Stylist Misa Hylton sat front row watching fashions from the designers that dressed our favorite rap stars.

The Universal Hip Hop Museum–which opens in 2024–partnered up with the Video Music Box and the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York to kick-off the 50th Anniversary celebration of Hip Hop culture with “The Drip: 50 Years of Hip Hop Fashion,” a live runway show held at The Venue at the Hard Rock Hotel Times Square.

Nostagic videos played on the gian screen as fashion design legends Karl Kani, April Walker, FUBU and Dapper Dan revealed clothing from their newest collections.

The show also included emerging designers Malik Dupri, Haus of Swag, Riche Threads and Pepper Jacques. Mayor Eric Adams was in the building and paid homage to the groundbreaking designers, The Shirt Kings, who started in the early 80s. The fashion show also introduced I.C.Y. Inspire Creative Youth and their mission to create elevation platforms for inner city youth around the world.

DJ Ralph McDaniels, creator of Hip Hop’s longest running broadcast variety show, Video Music Box and the Video Music Box Collection has been documenting Hip Hop culture for the past 40 years. “The Drip” included footage from a decade of original “Phat Fashion” runway shows for the audience of the next generation of Hip Hop’s designer’s, influencers, and fashionistas.  

Hip Hop musical guest Special Ed surprised the crowd with the Lo-Life’s and a special performance of his classics.

“For the past 50 years, Hip Hop fashion designers have carved their own lane in the fashion industry as creative entrepreneurs. Today, you can recognize Hip Hop style no matter where you see it globally,” said Universal Hip Hop Museum Executive Director Rocky Bucano.

“The Drip” is inspired by the groundbreaking Phat Fashion Show produced by Ralph McDaniels and Video Music Box. “Hip Hop’s influence on fashion is undeniable. And young Black and Brown designers and models made their own lane when the traditional fashion industry excluded them. So today, we celebrate those original trendsetters and the future leaders of Hip Hop fashion,” said Executive Producer Ralph McDaniels.

The Victoria’s Secret x Naomi Osaka collection has been in the works for some time now. 

Osaka, holder of two US Open and two Australian Open titles, became a founding partner of the VS Collective in Oct. 2022. As motherhood was a big inspiration for this collection, Osaka shared her thoughts on her child following in her athletic footsteps. “If they want to, out of fun. I can’t imagine them seeing me play and not wanting to do it, but I just want them to pursue what they want and enjoy their lives,” she said. 

The brand expressed that the collaboration pieces are “inspired by self-love” and “encompass the wonder of dreaming.” 

There are currently seven pieces available in pastel shades featuring a tie-dyed ombre effect. The star of the collection is the Forever Bra that features a fully recyclable bra pad.

K Camp’s work ethic is unmatched, having locked himself in the studio for the past decade. In fact, on his way over to our interview, he DMed Ludacris to see if there were any film opportunities for him. It’s time to expand!

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, the 32-year-old boasts an impressive catalog of hit records, including  “Money Baby,” “Comfortable,” and “Cut Her Off,” and even “Lottery (Renegade)” which took a course of its own over the pandemic. The song immediately became a viral sensation on TikTok, as millions of users made dance videos to the uptempo record.

But Camp doesn’t feel any type of way about the numbers. In fact, he chose not to perform it at his recent sold-out show at The Roxy in Los Angeles — mostly because the song became something he didn’t envision for himself initially.

Most recently, K Camp released his new single titled “Pretty Ones,” featuring B-Lovee.

The Source spoke with K Camp in downtown Los Angeles to discuss his recent show, collaborating with B-Lovee, TikTok, his clothing line, what Hip Hop means to him, and more! 

How’s it feel to be here in Los Angeles? Sold-out show, congrats!

It feels good. I was on stage, I told the crowd I had came out here a couple years ago and did a show. It was a janky promoter who really didn’t promote. I had did the show, it was probably 50 to 100 people in the crowd and it pissed me off. I was mad at everybody that night. I got into it with my manager, I got into it with my DJ. The girl I was talking to at the time, I almost made her walk home.

On God I was pissed off, because no artist wants to go to a show and ain’t nobody there for them. So it’s a full circle moment going to the Roxy and selling it out, and the promoter telling us “we left tickets on the table because we could have sold out more. We could have did a bigger venue.” It was a surreal moment.

What was the best moment?

[laughs] It was two moments. It was a dude I brought on stage that was doing some weird ass dance moves. I brought him up when I was doing “Woozie,” he was doing some shit with his legs. It was too damn funny.

Did you not perform “Lottery”? 

Nah, I don’t be performing “Lottery” like that. I don’t know why. I did it in Hawaii, but only because my DJ played it on some humbug shit. Because the way that song turned into a song that it wasn’t supposed to be. They turned it into a dance, like KIDZ BOP. So when I perform it, it feels childish to me. If they request it, I’ll do it.

I was going to ask, do they be requesting it?

Yeah they request it. If I hear someone saying it in the crowd, I’ll do it. But if I don’t hear it, I’ll just keep going. I got a lot of songs, I can keep going. If they don’t want it, they ain’t gon’ get it. 

Let’s talk about “Pretty Ones” featuring B-Lovee, fire collab.

For sure, shout out B-Lovee. He came through Atlanta and did that verse, so we really had an interaction and vibe in the studio. I already had the record ready. I just had to figure out who I wanted to put on it. He got motion up top. In my mind, I gotta turn my buzz up a little more on top. I get love in New York and up top, don’t get me wrong. But me personally, I need to make a presence more in New York and in Philly. 

I reached out to him, an artist that has some motion. He did what he had to do. It’s so crazy, I did that song last year in September. The song old. It’s not old, but I had it in the cut on my iTunes forever. Then when I heard Uzi come out with “I Just Wanna Rock Out,” I’m like damn. He beat me to it! It was just perfect timing. We did the deal with TikTok, the distribution deal. They wanted that record, and it’s out. 

How does that work? When they distribute it.

They got a distribution platform called SoundOn. They got the platform with the marketing and they send it through their own distro. You know, a direct deal. 

You be on TikTok like that?

I ain’t gonna lie, I didn’t at first. You probably bring back clips when I was not fucking with TikTok. But these days, I can catch myself just scrolling for an hour and a half. Til’ my head hurts. That shit be addicting though, it be some funny shit on there. I don’t watch TV, so I’m just scrolling. But I fuck with TikTok now. I fuck with it.

So you didn’t love it when “Lottery” was going crazy?

Nah, because I didn’t know what it was. Of course, it’s a social media app. But it seemed too gimmicky for me. It was too much weird funny shit going on. I don’t be doing weird funny shit, so let me just stay off the app. But the song started blowing up on the app, I’m like alright. I was rolling out an album, they kept saying “you gotta get on TikTok.” Let me just fuck around with TikTok. It’s cool. There’s methods to go viral, you gotta figure out how to go viral. It’s very detailed.

Talk about your own clothing line, Shop4Float.

Shop4Float, that’s the apparel. We just did a brand name change, so it’s called ONMÌ now.

It’s on me. Until you put it on, you gotta feel like it’s on me. We’ve been doing good. Right now, I’m tapping into the cosmetics lane. Got a product called Bae Essentials that I’m putting out soon. When I get back to Atlanta, we’re gonna do the rollout. The marketing for it. 

We got the Dickies shirt, the I Can’t Love No Bitch That Love Me shirt. They sold out. That was the biggest drop I did, it made almost $20K in two days. But I reinvest everything back into the business. All that shit goes hand in hand. I love fashion. I’ve been doing music so long, I just had to expand my brand and to do other shit I love. I decided to do clothes. 

I just DMed Ludacris when I was on the way today. I told him put me in some films man. [laughs] I said I want to get my Denzel on, I just DMed his ass.

I just did it, so we gon’ see. He’ll prob hit me back later, but I did it. I just want to do some different shit. I’ve been in the studio for damn 10 plus years straight, I gotta do some other shit. It’s fun though.

Hip Hop celebrates 50 years this year. What does Hip Hop mean to you?

Hip Hop means everything to me, it made me who I am. Grew up learning and studying this shit. Studying the people that came before me, inspired by the people who came before me. Wanting to be like the people that came before me. The fact that we’re still here, carrying a torch. It’s a lot of artists doing a good job, there’s artists burning the shit out. That’s every year, every decade. 

I just want to say salute to us. Salute to all the OGs that paved the way. Some of the OGs need to, I’m not gon’ say do a better job, but guide the youth. Our generation, nobody really gave us the game. We had to learn it on our own. It’s our job to inspire the next generation, but give them the game. Put them on, show them how it’s supposed to be done. We were out here just scrambling, trying to figure it out. It took a little longer. 

Especially for me, I got an interesting story. An interesting journey with my career. I had to figure that shit out. Shout out to 50 years of Hip Hop. Pretty sure we’ll have another 50 more, 150 more. When I’m gone, that shit will probably still be going. Salute to the legacy.

Hip-hop artist Tyga has a long history of being romantically linked to high-profile female celebrities, but his newest rumored romantic interest, pop star Avril Lavigne, has caught many people by surprise.

Rumors started swirling when the two were spotted dining at Nobu together with friends and hugging outside the restaurant on Saturday night before leaving together. (TMZ caught pictures, which can be seen here.)

While one source told People, “Avril and Tyga are genuinely friends and nothing more,” other sources claim that the two are dating.

The news might come as a shock to many, including Lavigne’s (reportedly ex) fiance, singer-songwriter Mod Sun. While some sources say that the two called off their engagement earlier this month, others say that Mod Sun was unaware that the pair were over.

Both parties have their own celebrity-filled dating rosters. Tyga shares a child with ex Blac Chyna and also dated Kylie Jenner for four years. He has also been linked to Iggy Azealia, Kiely Williams, and several models and “influencers.” Lavigne actually dated Brody Jenner, who is the stepbrother of Kylie Jenner, Tyga’s ex. In 2013, Lavigne married Chad Kroeger of Nickelback before divorcing two years later and moving on to Phillip Sarofim, the son of Texan billionaire Fayez Sarofim before dating Pete Jonas in 2020 and then finally, Mod Sun.

Neither has publicly commented on the rumors with Tyga promoting his upcoming Las Vegas residency and Lavigne promoting her new music on Instagram.

Blavity conducted an official launch event for their newest vertical, Home and Texture, Saturday (Feb. 20) at The Garden Room Atlanta. Home and Texture is the world’s first curated home, interior design, and commerce platform for Black and Multicultural Millennials. Atlanta socialites such as lifestyle influencer De’arra Taylor, Miss GA USA 2023 Rachel Russaw, fitness/lifestyle influencer Dayna Bolden, stylist Sneha Moore, realtor Barmel Lyons, and others were greeted upon entry to The Garden Room’s scenic floral backdrop, signature cocktails, a curated spread of delicious bites, live music from violinist Joy Black, and more. The 65 or so guests networked and learned more about Blavity’s new brand.

Blavity CEO Morgan DeBaun and author/speaker Mattie James held a brief chat during the event. As guests gathered around them, the two discussed how Home & Texture came to be and the significance of continuing to curate safe spaces for young Black professionals to grow, interact, and have access to content made by like-minded individuals, particularly in the interior design arena.

“We’re yearning for long firm content that connects with us,” Mattie James says. “And we’re in these seasons where we’re buying homes and building families so the connection matters even more.”

As Ice-T accepted his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last Friday, he addressed one aspect of being a star that does not seem to bother him: critics.

The 65-year-old hip-hop artist and actor, who accepted the star alongside his wife Coco and seven-year-old daughter Chanel, discussed cancel culture, addressing how people have been trying to cancel him since the beginning of his career, over four decades ago.

In an interview with Fox News, Ice-T said that people had “been trying to cancel me for 40 years… I’m difficult to cancel,” before continuing to explain that “I’ve already let everybody know all my flaws, all my vices and people rock with it.”

He also addressed online trolls and critics, saying that he turns the negative energy from critics into motivation, sharing his personal philosophy of “when someone tells me you can’t do it, that means I got to do it.” He referred to criticism as fuel, stating that “I eat haters for food.”

In December, the Grammy-winning artist shared an inspirational quote that read: “Everyone is going to hate you anyway…so you might as well give them a reason” with a post that said “Christmas is over.. My advice is you go into 2023 with THIS attitude if you want to WIN.”

On day six of XXXTENTACION’s murder trial, a fan named Scott Barbieux was called to the stand to recount the events that led him to photograph the late rapper after he was shot and killed.

According to Barbieux, he and his ex-girlfriend were window shopping at RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Florida when he witnessed XXX getting robbed and ultimately murdered.

Following the incident, Barbieux testified that he checked on the “Look at Me!” recording artist — saw the bullet wounds and assumed him dead — before taking a photo and posting it to Snapchat.

During his testimony, Barbieux proceeded to tell Prosecutor Pascale Achille that he took the snap because he was a huge fan of XXXTENTACION. Though, he was not in possession of the photo for long as investigators immediately took his phone from him at the scene of the crime.

“Do you recall taking a photograph with your phone of Mr. Onfroy after he was shot and seated in his vehicle?” Achille asked Barbieux.

“Yes,” Barbieux replied.

“Why did you do that?” asked Achille.

“Because I was a big fan of his and I wanted to have a photo to remember that forever,” Barbieux replied.

“Did that photograph, did you then upload it?” Achille asked.

“It was on Snapchat, yes,” confirmed Barbieux.

Prior to the incident, Barbieux admitted that he crossed paths with the “Hope” rapper as he exited the motorcycle shop but was denied when he asked for a photo-op. “Hey X let me get a photo — but he just ignored me and got in his car,” Barbieux testified. “He wasn’t in a good mood. You could tell by the way he came out of the door,” he added, detailing the rapper’s abrupt exit.

Later on, during the defense’s cross-examination, Barbieux testified that he checked on the body and realized the rapper had passed away. Defense attorney Mauricio Padilla then asked Barbieux if he received compensation for the image, to which he replied: “No.”

Amber Rose is back on social media defending herself to backlash and questions about her parenting skills, She also boasted that she was gifted $100,000 as a gift on Only Fans. 

Rose took to Instagram to spread the love by posting a censored nude image of her posing from behind. In a caption, the model wrote: “Keep the flowers, send a hunnid thousand. Link in bio #happyvalentinesday”

Many online commenters questioned her parenting skills wondering if these posts and images would affect her children. Eventually the 39-year-old model caught wind of users calling out her motherhood for promoting her OnlyFans with a nude image. She then revealed not only is she unbothered but someone gifted her $100,000.

“I just explained everything to him,” she said. “Like, when it comes to women, you have to let women do what they need to do to support their families. You want to go to a nice school? Six Flags? Universal? Travel? Mommy has to make money.”

“Ultimately, in the grand scheme of things, when my son is 20, 30 years old, he’s not gonna be like, ‘Mom I hate you because you were a stripper before I was born.’ It’s just the dumbest shit,” she said. “I don’t understand how people think it’s a big deal.”

R&B legend Huey Smith passed away at the age of 89.  Known as “Piano,” Smith’s daughter confirmed that he died in his sleep on Tuesday.  He has worked with many famous artists like Little Richard and Earl King.  His 1950s hit, “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu,” is what Piano is most known for.  Many future acts, such as Grateful Dead, Johnny Rivers, and Aerosmith, have sampled the song.  This led him to form his group, Huey Smith and the Clowns.

Smith was known for being a boogie pianist as his sound introduced funk to the mainstream world.  He played piano in the group while the Clowns sang, danced, and put on a show.  There’s only one song in his career that he did not receive credit for.  On the hit song “Sea Cruise,” Piano’s vocals were taken off the original music in place of Frankie Ford.  President of Ace Records, Johnny Vincent, felt Ford, a white teenager, would sell more records than a black artist.  It just so happens that “Don’t You Just Know It,” another hit from Smith, landed at the number nine spot on the charts, while “Sea Cruise” came in at 14.

The boogie pianist was born in the Garden District of New Orleans and died in Baton Rouge.  His career was recognized when he received the Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s Pioneer Award and the Big Easy Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.

Kanye West has had enough of the paparazzi. Instead of being engaged in altercations that could cause an issue for him, Ye is going to the police.

TMZ spotted Ye headed into the L.A. County Sherriff’s West Hollywood Station on Tuesday, letting the officers know that he got into an altercation with members of the paparazzi.

Ye reportedly asked members of the paparazzi to stop filming him and his family on Tuesday, with the interaction nearly becoming physical. Instead, Ye went to the police. Now, an investigation is underway into the incident.

In January, Kanye West got in trouble with the law after a video surfaced of him grabbing a woman’s cellphone. The Ventura County Sheriff’s office confirmed that Ye is under investigation for alleged battery after a video surfaced of the artist taking the woman’s phone as she photographed him from inside her car and then throwing it into the street.

According to the Ventura County Star, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alleged battery incident involving celebrity Kanye West near the Sports Academy on Rancho Conejo Boulevard in Newbury Park late Friday afternoon, officials said. The incident was reported around 4:37 p.m. after a reported altercation between West and a woman, said sheriff’s Capt. William Hutton. Hutton said that no arrests have yet been made, but it is an ongoing active investigation.

In the video, Kanye can be heard saying something to the effect of “Y’all ain’t gonna run up on me like that. If I say stop”…”stop with your cameras.”

The woman says she was not running and responds by saying, “Kanye, you’re a celebrity.”

The GOAT and His Airness. Michael Jordan has hit 60 years old. In celebration of MJ’s birthday, he is making a $10 million donation to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

According to ESPN, the $10 million donation is the largest ever received from a single individual in the history of the organization. Jordan hopes his actions will inspire more to give.

“For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids,” Jordan said in a statement. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration.”

Jordan has long supported Make-A-Wish, first making a donation in 1989.

“I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true,” Jordan said.
