The road to Conway The Machine’s major label Shady/Interscope Records debut, God Don’t Make Mistakes, was undeniably impactful and incredibly redemptive.  Universally hailed by critics and fans alike, the album was also his commercial breakthrough, as God Don’t Make Mistakes rose to the top of DSP charts and was also his highest-charting Billboard project to date.

While God Don’t Make Mistakes was Conway’s de-facto origin story, it will also serve as the bridge to the next phase of his already decorated career; which begins with his next album Won’t He Do It. 

After sharing the album’s first single, “Super Bowl,” which featured Sauce Walka and Juicy J, Conway The Machine released Won’t He Do It’s second single and first visual, “Quarters/Brucifix” featuring Westside Gunn.  Filmed on location in Paris, the dual single features production from Khrysis on “Quarters,” (which also includes a vocal clip from the late Combat Jack—RIP) along with the Westside Gunn assisted, and Daringer produced “Brucifix.”

After a successful 2022, the Harlem hero Jim Jones teams up with producer HitMaka for their EP Back In My Prime. The eight-track project displays Jim’s ability to adapt his sounds to the ever-changing times in hip-hop culture. 

The stand-out singles “Gunshot” featuring BEAM and “I Am” featuring Stefflon Don prove their musical chemistry. 

“YKTV” featuring Ty Dolla $ign shows Jim rapping in a graceful manner. He opens the song with lines reflective of his failures leading to success. He raps, “I’m trying to leave my son a legacy, for my dogs I’m trying to leave a better pedigree… So many nights I slept in a crack den, I done took a bunch of L’s trying to stack M’s”. Jim’s mature cadence compliments his signature fly talk where he talks of having his lover covered in “furs dragging like a broken exhaust” and flooded with jewelry on her neck. 

Back In My Prime is what happens if Harlem: Diary of A Summer was a wine aged by eighteen years. The beats are smoother and the maturation of Jim’s storytelling and cadences packs a stronger punch than his 2005 run in music. Rather than what the title of the EP implies, Jim is entering into a new prime at this point of his career.

He added, “I think there’s always pressure with this show. You work so hard, six months for 13 minutes. [This was] an opportunity to work with a global superstar and her re-entry into music.”

Cook is the 2nd pre-release single off of Louie’s upcoming full-length studio album entitled Atrocity Vol. 1. The video is the second of 2023 for Drake. He previously joined Dancehall superstar Popcaan who announced his new album, Great Is He, will be released on Jan. 27th, via OVO Sound, after unveiling the cover artwork and promising new music earlier this week.

Masego goes international for the video to his new hit single “You Never Visit Me.”

The new video takes Masego over to Brazil, where film director Malison Soares records a tropical environment, capturing the coastline. In the beautiful scene, Masego dines with fans, rides motorcycles, and even gets the party going.

With all the fun times to be had on the tropical escape, Masego is still missing bae, performing with the Brazilian band Afrocidade.

A North American tour was announced by Masego, and it will begin on March 13, 2023, at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. The You Never Visit Me Tour, which will feature performances at Terminal 5 in New York City on April 1 and The Wiltern in Los Angeles on April 27, is named after Masego’s upcoming single, which will be released on Dec. 12.

The ready-made crowd-pleaser, which finds the collaborators trading bars, cleverly breaks down a lover’s quarrel. The no-holds-barred track is accompanied by a fiery video that captures a heated argument about trust and infidelity. Watch it HERE.

Over a classic, bass-heavy beat and propulsive piano arrangement, Bagg expresses exasperation about the work it takes to make romance go the distance. “Asking me ‘bout b****es in a city that she think I’m f***ing,” he spits, “Look dead in her eyes before I lie, I’d rather tell her nothing.” GloRilla isn’t about to take that disrespect and fires back: “Ain’t got s*** to say now huh, dumbass?”  As catchy as it is relatable, “On Wat U On” is a surefire hit.

There’s no secret that Brooklyn drill mainstay Bobby Shmurda is a “no snitching” advocate, but it appears that the “Hot N***a” took his ideals a step further after teasing a new track that seems to be aiming at YSL’s Gunna titled “Rat N****s.”

Some say that Shmurda is aiming at Gunna, who took a plea deal in the YSL RICO case, which still leaves Young Slime Life capo and Gunna’s partner in rhyme, Young Thug, still behind bars. In the lyrics, Shmurda rapped, “Took a plea deal … left your dog in that pen … why they playback in that courtroom, keeps playing back in his head.”

Shmurda’s loyalty to his crew can never be questioned, as he added two years to his sentence in 2016 to take five years off Rowdy Rebel’s sentence.

Gunna took an Alford Plea in his RICO conspiracy case, which his lawyer Steven Shadow says does not influence the result of any of the other YSL members’ cases.

In the VisualzByDee-directed video, Kaash remembers times of losing his best friend, run-ins with the law, and more while Kodak smokes on a stair case and raps about the similar run-ins and unable to see the love cause he got blood in his eyes.

“Pushin For Love” marks 2G and Yak’s first collaboration together. No official word on whether the new collaboration will appear on a forthcoming album from either artists. Recently 2G.Kaash was spotted in the studio working with fellow Dallas rap star Yella Beezy.

Albee Al drops another visual off of the FREE THE REAL project through EMPIRE. In the “She F**k With A Gangsta” video, Albee Al and Rowdy Rebel are turning up with beautiful women. Al and one of the women perform a stick-up inside a diner they eat at. Nimi Hendrix directed the visual and has worked with Albee Al on his recent “King Koba” video.

“It’s two real ones linking up to make good music,” says Albee Al.

Metro Boomin will take the top spot on the Billboard 200. His Heroes & Villains album will make a No. 1 debut, making it his third album to reach that achievement.

For the first week, Heroes & Villains will corral 185,000 equivalent album units. The album features 21 Savage, Future, Don Toliver, The Weeknd, Gunna, John Legend, Takeoff, Young Thug, Morgan Freeman, Chris Brown, and Young Nudy.

SEA units account for 179,000 of the 185,000 equivalent album units gained by Heroes & Villains (equaling 233.38 million on-demand official streaming of the set’s music), album sales account for 5,000, and TEA units account for 1,000.

Metro Boomin also released the music video for the new track “Superhero (Heroes & Villains),” featuring Future and Chris Brown to mark the release of his new album.

The new video continues a partnership between these two legends that have grown to be among the most illustrious in hip-hop. A horn loop plays over an ominous beat in the song while Future’s instantly recognizable flow sends shockwaves through the music video’s production. These hazy trap sensations are embodied in the accompanying visual. It begins with a stressful diamond theft before branching out into a series of surreal scenes that include anything from spatial wall-breaking to sky-surfing.

Last week, Metro Boomin officially dropped off his sophomore album, Heroes & Villains. The new release follows star-studded short-film hyping fans for the album.

Speaking with Apple Music, Metro Boomin stated Heroes & Villains is the second part of a trilogy that began with Not All Heroes Wear Capes.

This is the second out of a trilogy. It’s going to be a trilogy. (Ebro: Now, is the third piece coming soon, or are you just going to see how this flow?) I’m going to see how this flow, because I really want to shoot a lot of videos to this one, and I’ve put a lot of time into this body of work. So I really want to stretch it, and not just throw out the third one.

Having struggled during a rough personal year and even tougher past month with losses that hit close to home, Desiigner had this to say in regards to his thoughts and current status of his career as an artist.
