Work so hard in the studio/sleep in the studio/#VampireLife…
Here’s another late night edition of #NSBAT because Hip-Hop don’t sleep! And the cliche example of rap that I used for the above quote is not a shot at Jim Jones or his clique, but rather at rappers boasting of “living” in the studio on social media. You should be working tirelessly to perfect your craft and not brag about it. Your work will speak for itself, guys.
Scram Jones – “Wild Style”
If you weren’t aware, this past week was the 30th Anniversary of Wild Style. Please watch it if you haven’t and make all your friends, family, and co-workers do the same. It’s an important piece of history not just to New York City, but to the art world. Scram Jones did his part in observing the anniversary with a track his produced, scratched, and rapped over. It will be on his upcoming Dead Giveway EP.

PIVOT – “Take 1”
Produced by Saba, take “Take 1” as an introduction to the Pivot Gang from Chicago. This one features MFnMelo, John Walt, and Saba on the mic and will land on their JIMMY project in September.

Ju Malone – “Let Me Go”
The muffled beat provided by Malone himself is perfect to lose yourself in after working a double shift.

FowL – “Unfold”
Tycoon Beats lays down a beat that has come to be described as very Detroit by me, after years of listening to Slum Village. And FowL is on his way to being in that conversation with Slum.

Dally Auston – “Through The Wire”
No, it’s not a freestyle over Kanye’s track. Instead, it’s an original verse over a beat from OnGaud describing the thoughts of a young artist.
